One thing that I like to do with Wordpress is create a 301 redirect on the 404 page so that all "broken" links are automatically redirected to my homepage to harness that linkjuice. Its a little trick that helps me automate the process of finding broken links and not having to setup single 301's. |

hi guys, I have the same problem. So it seems you can create a new page named 404.htm or similiar but then what do I do, how do I get it to redirect, I found this info earlier In order to specify your own customized error documents, you simply need to add the following command, on one line, within your htaccess file: ErrorDocument code /directory/filename.ext or ErrorDocument 404 /errors/notfound.html This would cause any error code resulting in 404 to be forward to yoursite.com/errors/notfound.html == Is this better to do, just add this to htaccess update: I figured it out. You can create a custom 404 page in your cpanel hosting account, just go to the cpanel, then to error pages, then open one of your existing pages on your site, right click on it, go to view source, copy and paste the html into the area in the error pages, then edit the text to what you want, then save, and your done. you'll understand when you go to your cpanel and see it |
