Why don't people use blogger for making micro-niche sites? Almost everyone I know uses WP. Are there SEO advantages to using WP over Blogger?

They don't understand how to build a site that traffic/people actually enjoy. I've been building sites on blogspot for about 5 years, with zero problems from blogspot. It's not complicated, build a useful site. One of my blogspots has around 1,000 email optins via feedburner (free), & that's an Adsense site!

But are there any SEO differences? Is a site hosted by WP more likely to be ranked well on Google than a site hosted by Blogger?

In my opinion there are no SEO differences. Everything is in your hands and everything depend on your way of SEOing the website. I've seen a lot of Blogger websites that were getting top places in Google search results with really useful information and well optimized. P.S. As for the choice between WP or Blogger I would give my vote to WP |

On blogspot, you can likely drive more links to it because it won't look as unusual as a new wordpress install getting hammered with links. Not being a blogsport expert, that's about the only "pro" I can think of for BP. On WP (I am an expert here), the ability to add functionality via plugins is second to none. Many of these plugins can also help you with SEO (All-in-One-SEO, Platinum-SEO, SEO-Pressor, RSS footer, to name but a few). Not only that, but you can test/change your theme very easily and some themes have significantly better CTRs than others. With BP, and keep in my mind, I'm no expert with BP, I don't think you have this range of flexibility. Perhaps some BP experts can point out any errors in my view?

Another pro of BP is free hosting. All you have to pay for is the domain.

I always chuckle at how people think their own wordpress blog is so much more easier to customize. It's not. Nothing could be further from the truth. Blogspot comes SEO'd by the people at google right out of the box. You need no plug ins to get anything to work the way it should. You have plenty, and I mean plenty of widgets, modules, etc. to add plenty. And I mean PLENTY with a capital P. And it's friggin easy. You can integrate adsense, amazon, your own links, your own javascripts, your own whatever. Easily in a no nonsense way. Blogspot is a top 5 most visited website in the world. My blogspots rock. And I mean ROCK. Just look at how many posts there are here of people crying about some plug in needed for wordpress, or some theme, or some other such nonsense. Blogger requires none of that crapola. In a little more than the time it took to write this post, you could have a fully SEO'd and customized blogspot blog up and running. And probably indexed by google in minutes. With adsense. With backlinks. With... Paul |

I prefer to own the domain that I am putting resources into it. Google owns your Blogspot blog and can decide to kill it at any point. If you own the WordPress blog, you have the power over it. The plugins are also very convenient for someone who has no coding background. |

It's much better to have an asset than to borrow from others. With your self-hosted wordpress site, you can turn it around and sell it when you get bored with it for a nice profit. With 2.0s you don't have that advantage. |

Well the first advantage is that YOU OWN THE SITE and can sell it. If you're smart you would host your own domain and use wp. Blogger is owned by google your site is just a sub domain. on google servers..and you dont own the property. But as far SEO advantages blogger may have the edge..in that it may get indexed faster, since its a web 2.0 property...and your own site might have a bit of a harder time since its a new site and google doesnt trust it as much. But in the long run as long as you have QUALITY ORIGINAL CONTENT then you will be fine with your own domain and wp.. Remember its all about ownership...blogger is better used for back linking strategies IMO...rather than making it the foundation for a micro niche strategy. My 2c

wordpress is the best if you plan on self hosting the domain. Its a really easy system to use with lots of plugins and customizations. blogger cannot be self hosted and has very limited custom options... you basically get what you get if you plan on getting the free wordpress hosting, then there are some limitations. You cannot use it for affiliate sales or for backlinking to other websites. They will close the account, however with blogger, there is no limitation, you can use it for affiliate marketing all you want in summary if you want your own domain and website without all the expensive coding and design costs, go with wordpress. Self host it and do whatever you want if you want a low cost way to do affiliate sales without having to invest in hosting, domains names and etc (bum marketing) go with blogger |

I had no idea. I have been using WP because I was warned off of Blogspot by "SEO Experts", probably to sell their ready made junk.

I think blogger has an upper hand if we talk about indexing in google search engine. but on the other hand blogger is very very limited as compared to wordpress. I too love working and making site on wordpress rather then blogger. other reason may be fear of being get deleted any time without any notice and lose all the content.

It took me 1 hour to learn blogger and weeks/ months to pick up wordpress (maybe I'm slow). Sure Google can close your blog if it violates it conditions, but blogger is just so user friendly and fun to DIY. El |

The problem with Blogger is that if Google doesn't like your content, they can shut you down in a heartbeat.

| I've read the Terms and Conditions, and it doesn't say anything that I think I would violate by making micro-niche sites & running adsense. The only ppl who had their blogs closed were probably putting squeeze pages on the blogs. Has anyone here had there blogspot blogs closed? If so, for what reason? |

Just invest the tiny amount and get Wordpress. This way you got a Blog you ACTUALLY own and you don't have to worry at night if you're gonna get banned tomorrow. I'd only recommend Blogger if you're a average everyday guy/guyette blogging about cats etc but that's it James |

Easy fix, never comment on a blogspot blog. Blogspot now includes a way to report spam, I use it all the time, it's great! The reason I say that blogspot comments will get you banned. I've copy & pasted some spam blogspot URLs that tried to spam my site, then saved to notepad on my PC. I then went back, reported the blogspot spam (single button click). A couple of days later I checked the blogspot URLs again to see If they were active. Lol, the sites were now deleted. ![]() I'm sure I wasn't the only blogspot hit by that single blogspot spammer, I'm sure others hit the blogspot spam button like I did. Bring on the blogspot spam, I gotta button for ya!
