Hey I'm researching a keyword, and these are the results from Traffic Travis. None of these sites have my keyword in the domain name. None of them even have the anchor text in the domain. But some of them are aged sites with good PR and high traffic. I'd just like to know what experienced warriors think. I know it won't be easy and it will take work, I'm just wondering if I work at it for 6 months+ is their any real chance I can get #1 ? All perspectives are appreciated, thanks ![]() |

Go for it. With the proper anchor text for your links, title tags, and header tags, you should be able to beat 'em.

are the ranking pages sub pages or root domain pages? If they are sub pages that is a really good indicator that you can take top ranks really easy

The top sites are: retailmenot.com/my_keyword (more or less) dealspl.us/my_keyword goodsearch.com/my_keyword Like I said in OP none of the sites have the keyword or even anchor text in the domain, so I guess that would make them sub-pages ? Also, I can get a .net and .org domain with my exact keywords (3 of them) with 1 hyphen. i.e. www.my-keyword.net So that is the domain I want to rank with. P.S. I'm looking at a keyword that has over 90,000 exact local searches a month so you guys are getting me pretty excited ![]() P.S.S I would like to continue this thread if anyone else has a keyword that they are trying to rank for and want advice. So if you are trying to rank for a keyword please feel free to post on this thread and ask the warriors !

Some people seem to be saying .com and .net ranks better, I don't know as this is my first experiment. My target audience will basically all be in the US so do you think thats a good extension, will it rank just as well ? I've also read people saying a hyphen doesn't really make a difference. So I guess the question is "Is it better to have a hyphen or a non-.com/.net extension ?" I don't really care if it doesn't rank outside the U.S.

Looks like easy pickings to slide into the first page. As long as the #1 site isn't an authority site ranking for a ton of keywords naturally in that niche you should be good.

I've been doing some more research. The site at #1 is retailmenot.com. Their Alexa rank is 699 which is pretty epic. They don't specialize in the niche I'm going after, it's just one of their sub-sections. They seem to be a bit of an authority of the broader niche. If I made a nice content-full site focusing exclusively on my niche with an EMD do you think I could top them ? Or is it foolish of me to think I can top a site with a 699 Alexa rank ? I have no doubt I can be on SERP 1, but I am zealous and want absolute #1
