Default Why Doesn't Anyone Share Their Money Site?

I've wondered for a while what the big deal is about sharing your keyword and money site. If you do, people will be able to see the keyword you are trying to rank for...err so what?

It's probably the keyword in your title/domain name/meta description

Aren't my competitors already aware of my keyword and URL? Who are these super-effective SEOs that will see my site and keyword and think "Aha, I'll just copy his backlinks and pass him in the SERPs."? Why is it apparently so easy to mimic someone's SEO success

If you want to copy my link building then you have 10s of thousands of words to write and a lot of new connections to build, so go for it. Why didn't you just do all that in the first place if it's so easy?

Please, someone tell me why it is so perilous to share this info and I will gladly admit my error and play the fool.

P.S. I found WF backlinks leading to one of my competitors posts where he purchased all the services he used to rank with. How's that for competition analysis?

Apparently you've never had your site cloned & pass you in the SERPs with your own content/feed.

Usually because people don't want to create any more competition for themselves than they already have. Sure, every search term has competition but if I say hey my site ranks for "blue widgets" and it makes really good money, you better believe that half of the people in the forum are all going to start chasing that keyword.

If I was to look at your site, I could analyze everything you have done to make your site rank for whatever keyword and then beat your site in much less time than it took you to get there. You have already done the work, I just need to tweak it to be better than what you have done.

Not to mention everyone has different access to tools, networks etc. So if you have written and submitted hundreds of articles to article directories, I could easily take your keyword run it through my network of high pr blogs and stomp you into the mud, it would require a lot less links than you needed, it would be faster and that money you were making would now be going into my pocket.

I track competitors all the time, one in particular had several sites in several different niches, niches that I had never thought of, I now outrank him/her in all of those niches and it took me less than 3 months. So, the moral of the story is, its better to keep your money sites secret.

Besides, if you had a company that made amazing snack cakes would you tell the other snack cake companies your recipe? Then they would make the exact same cakes and take away your business.

Actually, everybody is waiting for you to start it off. Once you post your money sites, everyone will follow suit

Is it worth it to own maybe 5 blogs that you build up over time, for the purpose of your own backlinks?

Probably because it has taken a great deal of effort to rank and make it profitable, and it can easily be cloned.

Oh and for the record, I'm really John Chow. You can clone my site.

Lol no that would just be wrong.

I appreciate the responses, and what makes sense to me is if you found a diamond in the rough keyword, I can see why you definitely wouldn't want to share it.

However, I don't see what's stopping someone from stealing your content right now, or looking at your links and trying to copy them before it's shared.

I don't mean to sound thick, but I think it's clear the keyword being targeted by the top result for "make money online". Is this webmaster's site at any more risk if he were to share that info here? Who is going to read that here and somehow compete more effectively because of it?

So build up some blogs, SEO the blogs, host some ads on them as well, and then do articles like you would for article directory marketing with link in it and over time try to build up to PR1 and so on.

Then you can uses these ( 50 ) blogs to give a steady flow of back links to my own sites.

article directory marketing as apposed to article marketing

On a main stream search term like "make money online" posting it here wouldn't make much of a difference, because everyone knows about it anyways. But if you were secretly cashing in on a term like "pictures of cute ducks" and you posted it here, yeah within a week or two you would probably have a lot more competition.

lol sorry John

I have been unaware of site cloning. The perspective I had was that for more competitive terms, or even moderately competitive terms, there may be a lot of backlinks that are hard to recreate or expensive to purchase, and it could be difficult to track and replicate any linking schemes (link pyramids) that may be present. And also I wasn't thinking along the terms of an especially profitable long-term keyword.

We've given away a few of our niches without much of a problem. Additionally, we've found clones of some of the sites we've listed on Flippa pop up, but they didn't do much to take away the revenue from the sites and (I think) none of them ultimately knocked the sites out of position.

I know a few people that have given away their niches on their blogs. Take Pat Flynn for example:

Niche Site Duel - Challenge Hub | The Smart Passive Income Blog

He gives away the niche and an incredible amount of information, as do the others that were participating in the "niche site duel" That being said, he's already quite successful and popular, so it wouldn't hurt him too much if people copied his work AND the exposure he got from the challenge was probably worth more than the site is, ultimately.

Now...for those starting off, I get why they wouldn't want to give away the info for their authority sites...especially if they don't have many sites up yet. For us, though...most of our sites are so low-earning that, in the time it took you to research our sites, backlinks, etc. you could pretty easily come up with new niches on your own...there's not much of an advantage to copying us.

Thanks for sharing, that's interesting you had problems only with flippa and not the SERPs. Also, the niche site duel - I hadn't seen that before, it's a great example.
