Should I go ahead and remove tag pages that Wordpress automatically generates. My tag pages are getting indexed in Google (domainname.com/tag/tag-name). I don't want others to discover my tags. How do tag pages benefit the Wordpress blog publisher? Do tag pages serve SEO benefits? The downside is obviously you can see all my tags for my website. Although, I am already ranking on page 1 and 2 for many longtail keywords with just days of setting up blog. Should I choose noindex, follow; noindex, nofollow; index, follow; or index, nofollow for my tag pages in the Platinum SEO options/settings page? I am using Platinum SEO which doesn't list "noindex for tag pages." It does, however, have a check box option for "noindex for Tag Archives." - Do I check or uncheck? Platinum SEO also lists a check box option for "no follow links to tag pages." Do I check or uncheck? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you. |

Tags are part of WordPress' filing system (along with categories) and can definitely bring more traffic to your sites if you use them properly. This article describes how to use tags and categories to optimise your WordPress site: Optimise WordPress with Categories and Tags | WealthyDragon Cheers, Martin. |

Thanks. That's a really good article. I definitely feel a lot more comfortable and confident about keeping my tags (and categories) but also structuring my site from the beginning and restructuring as my site evolves. I appreciate your help.

You can use the tag pages if you want, but I find it better to silo my content and have essentially a landing page for a large topic that I can build links to. Then I can use that powerful topic page to send juice to the pages on that topic. I find that a little more focused than all the different tag pages. I usually have my tag pages set to noindex.
