Hello all, I have been at this internet marketing thing for a little while now. I am doing pretty well but still learning. I have noticed some very interesting things when it comes to page rank. From time to time I see websites that are PR 1 that have only a handful of indexed pages and under 20 links to their domain. Now, I don't worry too much about these as I am able to rank past them with my PR 0 site, however; how does a site with so few backlinks and so few indexed pages get a rating above zero? I always figured it is some complex formula combining various pieces of the puzzle, but I would like to know the basics behind how sites accomplish this. I have two main reasons for wanting to know: 1) I find it terribly interesting and odd. 2) If I am able to beat these out with what I am already doing... maybe if I knew this missing piece of the puzzle I could give my websites a little boost and maybe even achieve higher rank numbers. Your feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

It's a matter of the quality of the links pointing to that specific URL. 1 single high page PageRank link with no other links on that page is enough to even get a PR5 or even more. It's better than 10,000 page PageRank 0 links. Now, the fact that Google is barely updating the TBPR like 3 times a year doesn't help at all to measure the real PR. |

First PR is nothing and not helps in SEO, its just helps you in selling your link, many PR 5 plus sites are not rank against any keyword on big search engine.. PR is link analysis algorithm but not thousand of links, some time few high PR and relevant backlinks are enough to rank your site. also domain age and traffic on website also helps in getting better PR.

Hey, Thanks Daniel. I had figured it had to do with backlink quality, so it's nice to get that confirmation. I noticed the site I am looking at has at least one link from a .edu site... though it shows a page rank of n/a, it is from a valuable place (EDU). I am sure that has something to do with it. I have seen, first hand, the power of quality backlinks. For some reason, I am a knucklehead and haven't put decent effort into employing the use of them. I have been spending most of my brain power on learning the ropes and implementing on-site SEO and some off-site SEO (other than quality backlinks). I need to get on the ball with that. Thanks again! |
