How accurate is Google Webmasters Tools in terms of the links they show you?

How accurate is Google Webmasters Tools?

The reason is I am looking at the links to my site and it seems like most of these links are not updated. For example, I wrote a guest post for a blog a few days ago but those links are not showing up. Does Google Webmasters Tools update their links everyday?

horribly incorrect... unfortunately they just dont provide a very transparent view of what they know about

Nothing will give you an accurate picture of all your backlinks.

I suggest you move on and think about more important things rather than whether or not your backlinks show up in various tools. As long as the URL of your backlink is indexed in the Search results, you're good.

Relatively accurate. These links often need some time to show up in webmaster tool, be patient. I usually use Yahoo Site Explorer and Google Webmaster Tool to check my site backlinks.

I estimate between 50% or there abouts. I also think that lower quality links like Profile Links and spam comments are deviled and not all are counted. I guess maybe 10-20% of those are counted. But these are guesses the reason Google does not show all your links is to make it an X factor in trying to figure out their algorithm

Google webmaster never gives you accurate backlinks count for some reason... I guess, Google does not wants your competitors to barge in to your backlinking strategy.

GWT is VERY slow about updating data.

Google will not show you all the sites linking back to you. It will only show you the ones it finds most relevant. But it does not mean that Google does not know about the other not so significant sites linking to you. It takes into account all links but shows you only the relevant ones.

Thanks for the interesting responses. So if the links are not showed in Webmasters Tools, does that mean my guest post link is not counted yet?

It does not update data each day.Wait minimum 15 days.

I would highly recommend you to use majesticseo.com. I haven't seen any other tool that is so frequently updated and relevant.

Not that great, I've had sites that in which GWT only shows 50% of what the other guys are showing. Not to mention they are PAINFULLY slow.

I'd also recommend MajesticSEO.com, they've really upped their indexing capabilities and overall index. Highly recommended!

webmaster tools is worthless...it only shows 10% of the backlinks...

Not all backlink crawled by google bot, since is it a few days old, just wait a little more, give google bot more time to propagate his work.
