Default Looking to find the right solution for SEO on sub pages

Hi,

My website has some good ranking for the home page. What I am looking to find out is the effect on SEOing the sub pages on the homepage rankings.

For example I don't rank well at all for 'keyword 1' so I will SEO the website page that reflects those keywords.

As 'Keyword 1' is a sub category of my business, the page URL contains the keywords, the headline on the page reflects the keywords...etc etc etc.

But for 'Keyword 2' my homepage ranks at the bottom of page 1 on Google.

What will happen if I start SEOing the sub category page for Keyword 2? Will the homepage drop off and be replaced by the sub category page?

Will homepage disappear for ever and sub category will never replace it?

What has happened in the past is SEO work has been put through the homepage and now I want to use more relevant keywords for each of the relevant keyword pages.

I hope that is clear enough!!

You should always SEO for specific pages. In your example the home page would be demoted, but you can expect to get a better rank on Page one for the new properly optimised and back-linked page.

The rule of thumb is one page - one keyword.

Thats what I want to achieve, one keyword one page. Luckily my business has many sub-niches so I can create pages for each keyword...well roughly speaking I can.

So will the sub category page past the homepage on the way out. I presume there is no way of knowing when the sub category page will appear and when the homepage will drop off?

Hi Woodie,

Yes the sub page will overtake the homepage as its authority increases with your SEO efforts.

The homepage will still pick up some residual authority from the overall status of the site though.

You are definitely thinking along the right lines targeting individual pages and if they are all closely repated to the main site topic, you'll get a generally positive overall effect across the board.

The solution for your issue is pretty straight forward. Yes..!!! Try to get backlinks for the web pages which you want to get more traffic, that will lead your sub-pages to be ranked on keyword search and give you massive traffic. Specially Google really loves such deep-link building too.
