Backlinks can be generated by participating in forums such as this, writing great content and by forming networks with others in your niche.

Don't look at Twitter as a way to "promote" stuff. Look at it as a way to reach out to readers, engage them and to build relationships. Limit your promotion there.

Directory backlink is great for SEO, but i found almost all directory did not accept submission.

that's great way for back link, we have to also do facebook and twitter posting/sharing for our content to increase traffic. right now a days people use facebook, myspace, twitter etc...

Very nice list for getting traffic and also generating backlinks. I also add guest blog posting with this list. This is a good way of getting strong backlinks and also direct traffic.
