Default Ranking above wikipedia

Hi guys,

How hard do you find it to rank above a wikipedia page with 0 back links to the page but it is still ranking in the top 3 positions.

Thanks

Matt

Hey Matt!

I've personally outranked wikipedia plenty of times. It's usually for a term that gets less than 3k monthly global searches and I try to nab an exact match domain.

If it's a broad term with a lot of searches it may be harder.

Good luck!
Vic

Your situation is too generic to give an answer on how easy it would be. It is very possible to rank above Wikipedia, but it can be a huge pain sometimes.

Usually depends on the PR of the Wiki page and mainly what the title tag is (whether or not it includes your exact keyword).

Thanks for the replies,

I thought that if the wiki page has the exact match keyword in the title and a few back links then it would be hard.

I guess it's just a case of building more links regularly.

Your assumption is correct. The Wiki page having the exact keyword phrase in its title tag definitely makes it more difficult.
