Not sure what to make of that article, because it fails to mention what google has always said about the ads at the top of SERPs. These are not part of the bidding process, but ads chosen internally due to being the best of the best. You could not bid X amount of dollars to get into these positions. They are only open to a select few who have proven themselves over time. You have to be a current paying customer, but these ads were not part of the current auction. Not sure why the article makes no mention of this. They make it sound as if google is opening these slots up to the general public, which I cannot believe. That would be a radical departure from their tried and true creed, "we don't sell top positions." Those top ads were all based on QS. Many searches don't even have those because there is no ad with a QS high enough. Paul |
