The future of SEO is always changing... Maybe the way we SEO today will be dead and gone but there will be new techniques and ideas. Social is just coming on the scene as a SEO factor that is new and something we never thought about not to long ago. Even if a new search engine takes over from Google they will have a algorithm and SEOs will figure it out no matter how they rank sites. SEO will change to meet that criteria. There will always be a big search engine with market share and there will always be SEOs figuring it out. |

Yeah, it will still depend on the search engines' updates in the future. I agree with Vladworks, maybe the way we optimized our site in the present will become useless in the future for there are new techniques will pop up depending on what kind of updates the search engines will make.

Search engines will not exist in the future. No. I think the time will come when instead of searching for something you'll be able to talk into a device and a selection of results will appear (or something along those lines). Everything evolves so it's very likely that search engines will be a thing of the past in the future... |

It seems to me that SEO is evolving into more of a social aspect. Likes, +1's, and number of Tweets (or whatever there future equivalent are) will have a large impact in the future. At least that's my prediction. I guess we will see and adapt or get left in the dust.

I think Facebook will launch a SE tool integrated within your Facebook account. It will customize search results based on the extensive information it has on its users. For example, search for something and you'll get options like "see what your friends bought". Google will eventually disappear up its own backside and I can't wait for that to happen. It is basically creating a mechanism for rewarding its big advertisers, so that they continue to spend $$ with google. It's basically creating an old boys network to keep the money flowing in one direction. One example of the proof is that they now consider searches on a company name as an important factor in their algorithm. This clearly provides a bonus for established corporation with name recognition, and essentially penalizes smaller companies who are trying to get off the mark. They've been hopeless at trying to diversify their business to create a cushion for when the bottom drops out of their little search monopoly. Just look at their failed Google Buzz and other mobile projects they've dumped money into. Watch out for a HUGE change in ranking philosophy coming out of them soon. They've shown that they're not afraid to kick some of the big players in the backside (think article directories), the types of enterprises who thrive on organic, non paid traffic. The next big update will focus on the use (abuse) of link-building, I'm convinced of it. As we all sit here buying our 50,000 link packages for $10, we're all basically filing an affidavit saying that "we, the collective undersigned, are willing to bend the rules, manipulate the system by buying votes for ourselves, and employ whatever nefarious means we can buy in $10 increments". You think the ass-kicking ain't coming? Think again |
