I recently got an Analysis done on my site and wanted to verify these things before I make the changes. 1) Does how long you register a domain in GoDaddy affect your ranking? Was told if you can register your domain for over 2 years, that's a good thing. 2) What about linking to another domain hosted on the same server? I have two domains related to each other that I link to, but they are hosted on the same server. I heard Google doesn't like this, as they can tell I'm linking to my own site. 3) Should I have less affiliate links on my blog? I was linking to my other products with different affiliate links that I use with my other Clickbank accounts, this way I can increase my gravity. I heard affiliate links are bad now and too much will get you penalized by Google. True? 4) Do I want to make my Wordpress tags no-follow? Heard that I want to make my tags no-follow, since Google doesn't like tags and noticed that some of my pages were coming up as duplicate content on Google because of the tags. 5) How do I make my tags no-follow? 6) How do I find duplicate content on my site? What's the best way to search my site for any duplicate content? Is it just copy/pasting a paragraph of my site in Google with quotation marks? I want to clean up anything that may be duplicate to improve rankings. 7) Do I not want to buy link farms or links from others? I've been buying some Link Wheels and Link Packages from WarriorForum and other sources. But, I was told that this can be a bad idea, because they use the SAME strategy for every customer they have. For example, Link Wheel Companies use the same thing over and over for other sites - and Google will notice this and is trying to eliminate these types of things now. If someone could answer these, that'd be great. Thanks! |

1. Domains that are registered for longer tend to be viewed more positively, but I wouldn't go for more than 2 years if it's a new site. You don't know how it will do and may choose to close it down. Once your renewal comes up you can renew for a longer period if everything is going well. 2. No problem. You can assign a rel="me" tag which will tell the search engines that you're being up front about linking to your sites. If they're on related subjects then no problem. 3. You don't want to cover your site in affiliate links (that's akin to spamming) but a few affiliate links going to products that are related to the subject of your site is no problem. 4. No. Tags are part of WordPress filing system and do not trigger duplicate content. Using categories and tags properly is a good way of optimising your site. More details here: Optimise WordPress with Categories and Tags | WealthyDragon 5. You can change the 'index' and 'follow' tags with almost any of the SEO plugins - All in one, Platinum, Yoast, etc. 6. WordPress does not generate duplicate content, but it does allow the SAME content on the SAME site to be accessed via a number of different routes: tags, categories and the different archives. This is not duplicate content. More details here: Duplicate Content on WordPress | WealthyDragon As long as you haven't scraped content from other sites or written duplicate articles you'll be OK. 7. Definitely not. Cheers, Martin. |

About the affilate links. It is usually better to have well placed affilate links on the site instead of just mashing them everywhere anyways. Try to find the best converting spots and leave it at that |
