Hello, I was wondering what you guys thought about this... For SEO: Is it better to have a .info domain with the exact keyword? OR Is it better to have a .com domain without the keyword (a totally irrelevant domain name to the keyword)? |

If I cannot get an EMD .com, .net, or .org, I try to get keyword+help.com or keyword+info.com; these two stop words have worked best for me.

And if you don't want to listen to anyone and are scared of using a .info, just do what Crystal suggested.

.com for sure.. Type in your EMD in google and the first related result that pops up use as your Domain.. .com .org or .net only... |

I would go with a .com because visitors will more than likely type your domain name with a .com if they want to go back to your site later in the future. And .info's can rank well, they just take a little bit more work than the .com, .org and .net |

Agreed 100%. Just like I mentioned above, I have plenty of .info's that are ranking on the first page for their keyword. No difference when compared to other TLD's from my experience.

YES. Keyword relevance is more important. I will use the keyword.info.

Given that most traffic to marketing/affiliate sites is via organic traffic or PPC, then the number of people typing in a domain is extremely, extremely small.

.info rank really as well as any other TLD. The only problem is it takes much more effort in gaining the rankings and especially maintaining it.. If you think EMD has an advantage, go for it. Also, if it does not work out with .info after a couple of weeks, buy a .com and then redirect 301 it to your new domain passing along all the link juice so you won't lose your hard work.. |

| I believe the domain name can be a factor however it is not the absolute ranking factor, your rank depends on the content development and link building efforts.

i have never seen a good .info site be number 1 on google, only .coms. EMDs are good, but with good keyword targetting #1 with a irrelevant .com is best. better yet, do what crystal love said i.e, add a word or a number or an s etc

Google is certainly not biased with domain extensions unless its about country specific domains. Also, keyword targeting in URLs is losing its weight because Google has discovered that webmasters are overdoing it to manipulate search engine rankings. I would suggest you to focus on promoting your brand with your domain, there are tons of other ways available to promote your keyword. |

Found this when I asked the same question hope it helps.... The .info question Answer this for yourself by Google searching the bold terms in the paragraph below: This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins, craft ideas, or how to check your page rank? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday? |

| I consistently rank .info sites in the top few spots on Google. Most of these .info's that I use are come and go products which are off the market within a year. However, I make more money from .info websites than any other TLD.

Both looks the same to google...you can always use a .info for testing purpose..esp for short term trend...as the cost of buying a .info is much more cheaper...

A lot of people are using .info domains for spamming. I have recently seen one guy using them and redirecting to another domain. From SEO wise it dosen't matter. .info ranks as well as .com Some so called SEO guru will not agree. |

It depends on what your goal is. If you want to create a legitimate brand, then .com is the way to go. For an affiliate site, .info will suffice.
