I have read mixed reviews out there about the accuracy of Googles keyword tool... I would think if google says X has 100,000 searches for it, then they would know right? Thoughts? Feedback? Other keyword tools to use? thanks |

Who is giving the review ? The nos you see are in the higher bracket. I have done adwords that would be the best indicator to verify this nos.

The Google keyword tool is going to be about as accurate as you can get... but nothing is 100% They just have the most data to reference from then everyone else. The majority of the keyword applications like Market Samurai etc just scrape data from Google. |

It's as accurate as you'll find, but the numbers are still just estimates -- but it beats the heck out of making wild guesses.

Like others have said before, the numbers are just estimates. Every keyword is not update automatically. You could search for a keyword and it will display a number but it could have gotten 20,000 more searches over the last two days and those won't necessarily be factored in. But as far as any other software, Google Keyword Tool is going to be the most accurate. |

Given that pretty much every keyword research tool on the market relies on GAKT data, it's the best we've got.

It more likely depends on whether you believe it or not. But you can use Google Adword Keyword Tool together with other keyword tools, such as Seobook Keyword Tool, Samurai, etc. and consider the results comprehensively.

It is accurate.. you need to take into account the seasonality of the keyword also.. and of course always do the exact match search.. Though there are keywords which are not listed in the tool and bring in a lot more trarffic but if you are starting.. it is the best tool for you.. |

I've always found the tool to be pretty accurate for numbers over 5000 exact searches/month. Anything under that and it can be a little bit more hit or miss, probably because of the higher margin of error (being off by 100 over 1000 searches is a lot worse than being off by 100 over 1000000 searches) but overall I trust it pretty well.

I have noticed that most keyword research tools are based on Google's Keyword Tool so i guess that alone is an indication that Google's Keyword tool is accurate but i wouldn't say it is absolutely 100%.

As a few have said, who else could possibly have data as good as google. On that note it's probably accurate in the main. Having said that, try to work this one out ... I'm number one in google for a fairly comptitive keyword, circa 9000 searches a month and it's in a very popular niche (popular with IM'ers) My clicks should be in the region of about 4000 per month if you believe that the no 1 spot should pick up just over 40% of said clicks. I get just over a thousand clicks and I've tested all sorts of page title/descriptions and it make little difference. My theory is this ... a very competitive niche, lots of IM'ers targeting the same keyword, all using automated tools to track their rankings on a daily basis. I know when I got into marketing I was checking rankings by the hour, let alone by the day So , it only takes a 100 IM'ers to be checking their rankings once a day with an automated tool to use up 3000 of those searches. And lets face it they aren't even on google, they're using software, so they aren't going to click on my no1 spot. Makes you wonder whether IM'ers are contributing to 75% of the search volumn on google simply checking their rankings ![]() Ron |

I have a website very high in a very searched generic word... I have had that for quite some time and even been able to expand on it. But the generic word itself can't have a very high organic CTR if I am to believe the search count |

If you check exact searches for keywords on Google Adwords tool then they gives you more accurate results.. I prefer Wordtracker its better then Google Adword tool.

Google is the real accurate estimator. let me explain you that if you find any key phrase search engine competition around 10 million then we can consider that a same key phrase should be popular at least half million people will search the same key phrase.

My friend had noticed that most keyword research tools are founded on Google's Keyword Tool so he think that alone is an indication that Google's Keyword tool is accurate but it wouldn't say it is absolutely 100%.

You can use semrush as a keyword research tool,it's more functional , it's source- is GKT itself, which is the most accurate keyword tool.

Its not that accurate, I tried the same keyword after a couple of hours and I got different results, not to much difference but still. I use keywordeye.co.uk and I am satisfied with them. |

You would think G's tool would be the most accurate, and maybe it is the "most" accurate, but it still seems like an educated guess. The only way to know is to run an AdWords campaign and look at the impressions. |

@frogman I'm not a big adwords user so I'm not sure how to get the best out of it. But aren't you going to accrue click charges running an adwords campaign just to get search data? But I see how it could give you very accurate results if you can get on the first page every time. Ron |

As you said. I too have same opinion. Even my keyword (Wall Papers) listing in second page. As per keyword tool daily the key word which I have is having 10000 searches. That means at least I should get daily 100 visits. But I am not getting even 20. I too need some clarification in this matter.

It's pretty accurate from my experience. I'd say it's within +-50%, which isn't bad for such a tool.

If you are doing exact match search volume you'll have a much better idea of what is an accurate number. You should also keep in mind though that this is not exact. You shouldn't base anything super important off of these numbers. Just use them as general guidelines.
