Fellow warriors, I guess we are very farmiliar with domain names like improductlaunchreviewx.com especially in IM clickbank product launches where all exact match domain names of the product may already be taken, people now tend to optin for the "x" option. Well, it's good but I've come to discover that at most times, those of my sites with the "x" option are not really powerful like my other sites with normal domains. I never really paid attention till when a guy with "-" in his domain name outranked me during a recent product launch and I was really pissed and after endless analysis to figure out why the guy outranked, I couldn't come up with any answers until one day it just struck me as I saw another site with "-" in the domain name doing really well in Google more than the guys with "x" and it all made sense. That was in May, then all through June and July, I stopped using "x" in my domain and replaced it with "-" and I noticed that my sites with it are way stronger in Google when compared to those with "x" but they is more to it than just adding a hypen. The secret is that you have to add only one hypen for it to be that powerful, something like im-productlaunchreview.com. This is a properly tested information, if you have any doubts then I recommend you do your case study. Pick out the next product launch and buy 2 domains like next-productlaunch.com and nextproductlaunchx.com, set them up equally and see the one that will rank better, I did this test twice myself. |

Thanks for sharing, pitty no other replies. But yes I have had the same experience! Just recently 2 sites with a similar domain name like mine except without the x just outranked me, heck I cant find even why because I have more backlinks, on page seo etc... Going to do a test like you suggested this week, thanks! |

First of all this is not accurate. I have domains above me that have x at the end of it and they are out ranking me. I also have non keyword domains that I am ranking number one. It all about your on page seo and off page seo. Do you have the exact same backlinks and content? No? well then you really cant tell. Just to let everyone know you dont have to have the keyword in the domain name. I have done both and have had success with each option. You need to look at what anchor text he is using, the number of backlinks, the sources of the backlinks, the types of backlinks, and the pr of backlinks. Also check he on page seo. |

I can tell you right now that x doesn't matter & won't stop you from ranking. Don't believe all the EMD hype. EMDs are not the end all solution to ranking a web page. |

| Yup, I agree. As cliche as it sounds, it's all about the links (and of course good on-page SEO too). Hell, I'm currently ranking a page at the #1 spot in Google, and I don't even use the keyword (or any keyword like it) anywhere on the page. Why am I ranking for it then? Because of the anchor text linkssssssssss!

![]() EMDs are one of those things that people think they can buy their way into a SERP position for $10 (domain cost), then they freak out when they fall in the SERPs because a site with real seo bumps them out of the way.

| Great point but some of the most recent correlation data has shown that certain characters do have a negative correlation with rankings. Regardless, at the end of the day, it is a small piece of the puzzle and good SEO will always win.

Even with some so called data, I doubt I'll believe x matters one way or another. Why? Because x hasn't caused a problem for me in the SERPs. Thanks for the data link.

I was starting to wonder about an 'x' at the end of one my EMD. It's too new to say but it will be interesting to watch. Thanks for the tips on not needing EMD! |

I've always preferred hyphens myself. Google has stated multiple times that they ignore them. So you should still get an EMD benefit. That said, EMD's are getting weaker and weaker. They still have a small benefit. But not nearly what it used to be, even just a few years ago. |
