How many keywords per blog post?

Hi guys,

I am new to SEO and am currently working on a project in the UK that involves a lot of content creation through the company blog. I have been running the blog and creating content for it for a couple of months now and have been using this forum for tips along the way.

One thing I see crop up quite a bit is people recommending that you should only include 3 or 4 keywords per blog post. Upon reading a comment like this, I realised that I have been including about 7 or 8 keywords per blog post.

Could anybody explain if (and why) having more than 4 keywords is bad for a web page / blog post and recommend whether or not I should trawl through the old articles and delete keywords to get them down to an optimal amount.

I am a bit worried about deleting keywords and seeing a drop in search traffic, but if it ends up enhancing traffic I will do it straight away.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions as to this little dilemma.

Only 3 to 4 keywords are good in a blog post.

Depends. Wasnt there a thing called keyword density?

Search around on G or the forum and you will find out.

Hey that's a good question. The answer is basically 2.5% to 4% keyword density.

I will strongly recommend you that to go through 7 key phrases to each blog as its maximum parameter of blogging in concern of key phrase ranking in search engine.

Too many links are not helpful, as they reduce link juice.. Its better to place just 2 or 3 links per post to get full advantage of the post.

A perfectly optimized page is about 1-3 keywords that are closely related.

Example: Shampoo, Best Shampoo, Top Shampoo

That is what optimized means.

Back to your problem/question....

Dont go deleting anything if it is bring you traffic....just focus on less keywords as you write more blog posts. Keep it tight and in focus and you will get better results.

As others have already posted keep up your keyword density.

I like to follow this format...

Title: include keyword as early as possible ( best if first word)
Content:
Keyword as soon as possible in post ( best within first 3 words )
Keyword again somewhere in middle a 2 more times. In on of the either bold it or italics. ( often best if one instance is start of 2nd or 3rd paragraph )
Keyword again one more time as close to end of post as possible. ( best if in last 3 words.)

Two to three keywords is enough more then this it looks Spammy.

How many times the keyword or phrase is mentioned in the text of your pages is as important as the text is. If you drown the reader with the word the content makes less sense and loses the attention of the individual. You actually want to mention the keyword just frequently enough to remind the reader of the reason they are on your site.

It has been proven that a keyword density of not less than 2% and not more than 5% is the appropriate percentage to do what you are trying to do. This means for 250 words on the page you do not want the keyword to appear more than 5 times. That will establish you a 2% ratio of the keyword to text.

So for a two percent density you want your keyword to appear:
5x in 250 words
10 times in 500 words
15 times in 750 words
20 times in 1000 words.

Minding the keyword density is good. But as I write content for my blog, I don't usually mind it. What I do is I just write content that is easy to read with proper headings, separating sections, and I usually use bullets if I'm pointing something important.

I just don't forget to include my keywords to my article.
