Arrow On page SEO vs Off-page SEO- What matters more in this case?

Hi guys. I have come across a keyword.(i have posted a thread earlier where I attached a screenshot) where the top 10 sites are around 10 years old. Also they do not have any on page seo for the keyword but have backlinks in the thousands. Quality backlinks.

I have done research on these sites backlinks and they do not seem to heavily focus on getting backlinks with the keyword I have found. Maybe 5 backlinks use that exact keyword.

I usually optimise new sites if the domains are no older than 6 years. But there are obviously exceptions and other factors to consider.

What would you guys say ? Is it a good keyword to go for any how long would you estimate it would take to rank?
I would say that it is a good keyword due to lack of on page seo and lack of anchor text from their backlinks...what do you guys think?

Well two things come into my mind -

1. Maybe the whatever research you would have done using whatever tools, that tool didn't give you the exact links the site has with those keywords as anchor text.

2. Even if the links are very few they are good enough to rank them #1 (which I doubt if the keyword is competitive)

Or the keyword is not that competitive. It would be much easier if you can post the keyword, sites and other info so that I can take a look.

Just started this new blog on Google, SEO and other related stuff. I am not the best of the writers but I am trying.

It really depends, but chances are its not worth it. If indeed these are old domains with "thousands of quality links" than its most likely a very established front page with little wiggle room.

Older domains + quality backlinks + link aging = tough to crack unless you are in it for the long haul and have an idea or strategy to get solid backlinks.

The keyword that i am talking about is for an offline business. They want to rank for that keyword....I am not sure if I should go for it as the way I charge is like this...I start charging when they rank no3 or higher for that keyword...so that's why i am not sure if i should go for it.

i usually go for keyword that take a maximum of 3 months to rank, so that i can get a stream of revenue from that source quicker.

The only thing that makes me want to go for it is that those sites do not actually have many backlinks with the anchor text necessary. SO you could say that they are ranking "accidentally" which would make their other links useless for ranking for that term.... what do you think?
