Default Free hosted blogs

I was thinking on setting up some free hosted blogs to drive highly targetted links back to my website. However, both Blogspot and Wordpress say in their terms and conditions that they don't want "commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites". Are they really serious about this - how strongly will this be policed? Would I be better to go to the extra effort and expense of setting up my blogs on paid hosting so that I don't run the risk of having them shut down at some point when they start producing results for me? Also, is there any risk in having my blog hosted on the same Hostgator account as my website - will Google put 2 and 2 together and figure out that these are not "natural" links?

My website contains reviews of great dating and relationship products for getting your ex boyfriend back, saving your marriage and attracting men: The Magic of Making Up Review; Save My Marriage Today Review; Men Made Easy Review

I'd suggest you to go on self hosted platforms if you were to ask me. There is a lot of T&C around. Anything wrong they shut your site down and that's it. All gone. All time wasted, effort wasted and etc... =\ based on my own experience! xD

Just get a hosting service that allows unlimited domains. Its $10 or less a month and DEFINITELY worth it.

Um, everybody seems to be missing the point. The OP is asking regarding the use of free Blogs for SEO/traffic generation. He already has a money site.

Backlinks from self-hosted Blogs will be worth squat, as you won't get IP diversity. My opinion is to use the free services, but take the time to build your feeder Blogs into something credible before dropping backlinks. Also, when you do finally publish links I'd suggest doing it within a conversational post - forget sales speak, but instead present yourself as a fellow consumer.
