Hi Warriors, I'm sure that most will know that the .CO domain is the first global domain extension to be released for years. Well known marketers like Ed Dale swear by this extension - all his site have a .CO extension. Is it as good as .com / .org and .net to rank well with? I would really appreciate some thoughts on that please. Thanks in advance Arjen |

I always prioritize .com domains because they are much more valuable, as well as they rank highly in the search engines..

Domain name extension has nothing to do with ranking. Let me repeat again. Domain name extension has nothing to do with ranking. You can outrank a dot com with other extensions. There are benefits to the dot com - such as type in traffic. Most people are going to put that added "M" on the bottom if they type the name in. But for just ranking, don't trust me - do your research on the topic. They are all the same. Do a search on this forum and you will find several threads which support that answer.

Exactly Jill... I've ranked .info domains over .com authority websites, through aggressive whitehat backlinking. I've never had any problems with the domain extensions regarding ranking, i think this is the biggest myth of all time. But... the most Non-internet savvy person when asked to remember a website there first instinct is to actually tpye or say .com at the end of the websites name. Even if the site there are referring to is a .co.uk/ .org etc...

I've had no problem getting on the front page of Google with .co. It's not the extension that matters when ranking. It's the SEO that you do.

I have a .co site and it ranks just fine. It's all about the work and effort you put into it and the seo strategy. If you ain't ranking after 2-3 months work than your seo strategy sucks. |

I have some .co domains and they are very hard to rank top 10, they always hang on #11 no idea why, also SE traffic is very low if I compare to an .org, .com or .net domain with similar posts count and backlinks

I think .co is fine if you are trying to actually use the site. If your plan is to flip or sell the domain, a .com is supreme IMO.

Not really as people who aren't tech savvy will have a difficult time remembering a .co compared to a .com

Stick with .com if you can...or the runners up .net and .org - .org works well if you are building up link wheels to boost your money site by turning your .org sites into authority sites. That has been my strategy. Michael |

It's fine, but people always tend to remember the .com. Might as well stick with the .com.

.com will always be #1, and I don't see .co being so popular especially because people will (at least in the near future) think that you just missed the M at the end.

Arjen. In general .com .net .org might outrank a .co from an organic perspective, but there are soooo many other factors that make this discussion largely irrelevant. If you are producing good quality, relevant content and doing the right amount of SEO, then you will be in a good position. If you can't get anything else, buy the .co and focus your attention on other things. :-) For those that have .co domains, don't forget to turn on geo-targetting. Watch the video here: http://www.domainerincome.com/news/h...-domain-names/ Jill: There are a few other reasons for why "the challenge" is up there. :-) |

You can't forget "o.co" for Overstock. For me, they are the ones that made .co popular.

People who say they only get a dot com ranked are people who don't know what they're doing, much less talking about. And logic about value? Since a .co will cost you more than a dot com, what's up with the "value" of a dot com over a .co? Some of these replies are just cargo-on nonsense. The OP question, "Is a .CO Domain a Good Domain To Buy?" should have been done and done after someone said, "Yes." Paul |
