Default Keyword Stats - Should I move on?

1st post ever so I hope I don't come off as to noobish!

I have been looking to build a niche site and I have been pouring over keyword possibilities. I have found one that I need some input on.

Keyword: It is a 3 word phrase
Global Searches: 6600 monthly searches according to Google
Exact Phrase Results: 194,000 <---- This is what is bothering me.

Should I move on or can I overcome this? I am not looking to get rich quick or be Rank #1 in 12 hours!!!!!

I plan to fill the site with quality relevant content but I do not want to face a monster uphill SEO battle.

Any help is appreciated.

The number of competing pages is not what you should be looking at. Look only at the first page results on Google. These are your real competition.

Also, when doing keyword research, don't look at the Global searches. You need to change that the "Exact searches" to give you a better idea of the number of searches your keyword will actually get.

Download the free version of traffic travis and run the keyword. It should give you good insight to your competitors.

When submitting the keyword is using quotes a good or bad thing. I am a bit confused on this because:

Keyword
"Keyword"

reveal two very different things.

Thank you for the replies, it is appreciated.

You should look in the AdWords keyword tool and make sure you check the exact match box. Then look at the volume that your phrase gets searched.

As far as how hard it is going to be to rank, you shouldn't even care how many sites show up when you do the search in Google. Where do you want your site to rank? In the top 10? Then only look at the top 10 as those are the sites you are going to have to beat. You can use Market Samurai to get a good idea of the competition because it doesn't sound like you know enough about SEO to do a manual analysis on your own. You should really read up on SEO before you start undertaking a project like this.

Yeah, it depends on the rest of the competition for the term. 6600 searches a month is ok, but it's not huge, so if it's not a niche that traffic travis shows you could reach relatively easily, I probably wouldn't bother with it.
