What source does SEO Toolbar, rankchecker, ect get their data from??

Does anyone know if SEO Toolbar - SEO Toolbar for Firefox: Free Firefox SEO Extension / Browser Plug In - and Rankchecker -http://www.rankchecker.com/pagerank-checker/ - get their data from?

I'm wondering if there is an inbetween site or service that makes it easy to get yahoo backlinks, whois history, ect, or if I have to go to each individual site to get the information.
