Default For Those With Big Sites How Many Post Do You Display On Your Main Page?

I was thinking about this tonight. For those of us who have bigger sites, not 3-4 pager xfactor style sites, how many post do you leave available for the user to see. For example, one of my sites has over 30 pages and it lists the last 20 recent posts. But today I thought, the more pages that they can see, the more chance of them clicking on a new post rather then a ad. I'd rather them not have as many options and just click on the ads rather then my posts.

This really depends on what your site's goals are and the type of site you have. On a larger tech blog I own I have 10 posts all with excerpts showing.

If you have 20 posts showing, then you may lose out on Ad clicks simply because your site will take longer to load.

i have the main page as a sticky but on the side i have like 20 plus pages listing down. The reason for this was because i believed it would help for seo and i also wanted to show i am not an xfactor 3 page site if i ever came up for review

I don't run any huge sites, but this is what I'd do.

I'd prefer to leave the home page as a sticky page and have a list of the most recent posts or so on the side.

how many posts do you list on the side? i think im going to shorten mine from like 30 to five. I might just put all of the posts into a category page and leave it at that

Think like that: If you show 20-30 posts in side bar then the page views are more and in turn you can get more clicks on ads per visitor. I usually left links to 20-30 posts for better page views. It also increases user experience and more trust in google's eye.

Hope it help

thats a good idea, that is why i left 20 to 30 pages. I figured if i go under manual review and have 30 unique long articles it would look good. but then the down side is visitor will go ahead and click on other pages get the info they want and bail lol. Either way theres only one way to find out and thats for me to test it
