Default Search results of a good keyword

Hello everyone

Assume that I have found a keyword with 1300 global monthly searches and 1000 using Google Keyword tool.

I checked it's CPC using Google adwords traffic estimator and the result is $1.08

Now I attempted to search for the keyword on google (broad search) and I got 1,650,000 results.

so am I capable of competing and actually making money out of this, or not because of the large number of results? I realize I miss knowledge in this part and any suggestions/comments are more than welcome!

Thank you

when you enter three words in the Google it is going to give results for all three words in any combination. To get a better picture do your search with quotes. That will display result for your exact phrase.

OK, start using FireFox if you're not already and download the SEOQuake plugin. This will make it so that when you search Google you will get some important information such as page rank, number of index pages for the entire domain, number of backlinks on page and entire site, and age.

These are the most important factors that effect SEO. In my honest opinion, don't even look at the number of competing pages. Instead, look at the competition on the first page. If you're not on first page then you're not going to get much traffic, if any, for your particular keyword.

The 10 results are the pages that you want to beat. So you have to ask yourself: can I beat these 10 pages? If you see high page ranks, authority sites, and high PR backlinks then steer clear. Otherwise do a bit more analysis like what the main domain's PR is, the quality of most of the backlinks, etc.

Not all of the 1 million search results are your competitors. You should research the top 3 sites. you can get at most 400 clicks per month on No.1 if 1000 search volume per month. If not on Top 3. you will get less than 80 clicks per month. if 3% CTR to your adsense ads. you earn less than 5 dollar per month. So you must rank on top 3 to get profit.

Keyword research is a little more involved. Your keyword must be relevant to your product or service, meaning the people who use that keyword are looking for what you have to offer, and your keyword needs to have decent search volume, and most importantly.....the competition for the keyword must be manageable....If you compete against marketing giants for keywords you will likely lose the battle.

Stop worrying about the competing number of pages. It does not matter. The only thing that matters are the results of the top 10, and actually with a keyword with low search volume like that I'd focus on the top 3.

Judge their on-page and their link quality. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you'll be successful.

I have a keyword domain name with exact match search of 1600 global / 720 local US / Approx CPC 43.25.

Nothing has been done to the website yet. Not even Googling the URL of the website (not indexed yet?) could find it. It has 9 PLR articles and youtube videos, amazon associates store, Clickbank banners, and adsense ads. I'm getting:

Any potential and what could I start with it?

The amount of results means absolutely nothing. Anyone who says that it does is a moron who does not understand SEO. You need to learn what factors are important for on-page optimization and start there. Look at the top 10 results for the keyword. Are they optimizing their page for your keyword? If not, that's a good sign.

Then you need to learn how to look at a backlink portfolio. See how strong they are. That is the kind of things you should be basing your analysis of whether or not you can rank off of.

Actually, you need to know these few things when doing keyword research...

What is broad, phrase, exact match means: What is Broad, Phrase, Exact Match Means in Google Keyword Tool?

You have to look at the exact match for your keyword, that's the number of visitors actually going to visit your site.

However, just looking at the number alone won't make you money, you have to pick the right buying keywords, I had an article here about keyword research to find high conversion long keywords and increase your web traffic: How To Build / Increase Web Traffic Part 1 - Long Tail Keyword Strategy

This should give you an idea how keyword research works.

Thanks everyone for your replies, special thanks to kkchoon, your articles were really what I was looking for.

I installed Firefox SEOQUAKE, so when I perform a broad search I get a bunch of 4-5 PR sites, searched keywords are not in same order, but if I perform a phrase search, I get low PR sites that seem to be beatable.. which one do you guys consider?

you can also try the google adwords to search a helpful keywords for your sites. In my opinion, i know its a cheating but hoping it can help you.. if you want your can double check your number 1 competitor meta tags to double check the site keywords.. your can use it also, but its up to you.. you have to be careful in putting the keywords since this are the best way to crawl your site easily.
