Before I continue this thread, it is useless if I don’t give the screenshot to prove it. Unfortunately, to give screenshot about CTR that I got means violation to the Google Adsense’s T.O.S. If you are sitting next to me, I want to open my notebook and log in my Google adsense, so you can see my CTR is above 10%. SO....., If you still believe what I said eventough You don't see the screenshoot, please continue reading this. 1. Use one column themes I believe it heard strange (at least there is few people who discuss this idea in Digital Point forum). For example, have you ever seen mini-site for sales page? You ever did it, right! When you saw the mini-site for sales page, do you ever look around the page? Of course not, because in unconsciously you will focus to the sentences that the page have. Truly, those words that hypnotize you make you focus to the sentences there, yet this mini-site with one column has roles to make you read it and scroll it carefully, and in seconds you want to buy the product that is offered. I got that vision and try to make themes adsense in one column. What fort?? Of course, it’s to make you focus on one thing. hahahaha. 2. The Placement is below the title and after third paragraph Point one is the placement of adsense is below the title, so that the visitor will pay attention to the article and start to see adsense advertisement. It is worth enough to click it! Visitors’ characteristics who will click it are the visitor who is searching in search engine and love to make many tabs. When they wait the loading process, they will see adsense advertisement (the adsense advertisement should have blue color like other link), suddenly they will click it. Second point, the placement after third paragraph. Actually, there are no special placement standards in paragraphs. But for this advertisement, this is dedicated for visitor who focuses to read the content. For visitors who truly have read the article, and suddenly get trapped by the adsense advertisement, they will get tricked! Or if they are not see the advertisement at first time and when they are serious reading the article, the adsense advertisement show off! I am sure that they will not focus, and by that time, they will click the adsense advertisement. Note: For setting, I used like this: 336 X 280 ![]() 3. In the end of content, it should have something which makes the visitors come back to above. Here, I mean the related article. As we know that the placement of the advertisement is only at above, in 2 spot placements, like I have explained it in second point. Our efforts are trying hard to make the visitors mind out of control (can only focus to the article), can go back to above! Hope that they will come back again and get trapped by adsense advertisement! hahaha How to go about it?? I use the related article post. I use Automatic Link & Related Post plug-in by Purwedi Kurniawan. 4. Give link to be shared For this point, the optimal thing can be categorized as “SEMI”. What does it mean? You will know it through read more So, if the visitor success to go out of the trapped in our 2 adsense in above, we tried to trap them with the related post, in order to open new article and hope they will click it this time..But if they don’t interest to click it, they have to share it! It’s ok the visitor doesn’t click our adsense… but if the article is good, maybe the visitor wants to share it to friends. Retweet or like in Facebook. By sharing, we don’t get SEO point, but we get viral effect. This is important. And sometimes, we ignored it, because we are too addicted with SEO. Note: just want to share; my friend got 3K – 5K visitors in a day. Where do the visitors come??? It is because of twitter! Surprise! I also got surprised when I saw the wp admin who take care of it. There is no traffic that comes from search engine inn his wp status, but comes from referrer site. And the referrer site is twitter. He is only focus on sharing the nice info in his twitter. And the followers come, so that many visitors come too! That’s why to set plug-in that has share facility is very important for me. It is like an obligatory. My themes had been integrated to the share facility in some social bookmark. Note: Don’t set many share facilities. 3 is enough. Retweet on Twitter, Like on Facebook, and Google+. But if you want to add more, just add Digg, Stumble Upon, and Delicious (you can replace delicious with reedit) (those three sites are the lesson from SEO Demystified guidance) Back to “SEMI” This is why the visitor doesn’t want to share with friends, though all we need is click ‘retweet’. Do you want to know? How if we are still reading it and got offered to share, but we don’t want it, what should we do? I have 2 answers: 1. You exit the website. 2. Scroll above and find something to read or click. Right??? Point one, we don’t expect it! Point two is clear that our target is the visitor who comes back again and seeing the related post again! Hope he or she will click it, and when he or she reads the new article, he or she will click the adsense advertisement! In the end of article, I don’t set the adsense advertisement again. It would give the visitor 2 choices. Read the related article, doesn’t share it. That’s all! (The worst thing is the third choices, exit from our website) This thread is made from my experience during my observation on the adsense placement and kinds of adsense that I set during 6 months. 5. Delete the Comment Form Please, delete the comment form! Because in the end of article we had made noise with share and related post facilities. Don’t add more noise which can make visitors will not come back again to above. :-) This is the steps to do it: 1. Go to Appearance --> Themes Editor 2. Go to Single Post (single.php) 3. Delete this part: " <?php comments_template(); ?> " ( no need to worry if it is error. It will not broken ) Hope it is worthwhile. Proof ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I really like taking away the comment box as well. Serves no purpose if your sole purpose for the site is adsense! Great post |

Good post. I would mention that although I have had CTRs as high as 25% on a site, I have deliberately deoptimised the page so it would get less, e.g. by flowing text around the ads rather than placing them under the H1 header etc. I don't want to send a lot of click-happy but non-converting visitors to advertisers. I believe that is a potential way to attract the wrong kind of attention from Google. Others will disagree with this, but I would rather not risk it - I want to hang on to my Adsense account. So I agree you should optimise your pages in all these ways - just don't overdo it. |

Good info. I also try to remove the comment box from any site in which I do not plan on interacting with the user. It gives them one less place to look at and be distracted from my ads - and it cuts down on blog spam... |

I'm not sure if anyone who replied actually read the post because if they did, they would all collectively reply, "Huh?" Paul |

Sometimes its good to leave the comments section. If people use it for relevant discussion, it will add to your on-page SEO. |

Love this post. The main important thing I can think of to add is to be careful not to trick people into clicking. Too many invalid clicks could mean an account ban - and I imagine that the way they may do this is to measure the bounce rate, if everyone clicks the ad and then 2 seconds later clicks back, it's a strong signal. Sometimes, the kinds of changes that result in a CTR boost are really unexpected. The only way to be sure is to test. It's a lot easier to test on a high traffic page, because you see results fast. |

This is very good basic information, and anyone that wants to make a living with adsense should follow what Khalid Abdullah says. Another important thing you should do is test everything. A slight change in your header, color scheme, or layout can bring back higher click through rates. It is different for every niche, so you will not know unless you test everything for yourself. |

One column theme sounds a good idea, maybe I should check it on new blogs. Hope it works.
