Default How severe is a Google Dance?

I was looking at my rankings using Browsershots.org and confirming in various tools. Last night I was ranked #1 for my keyword. Today, I am ranked #17.

Is the Google dance this extreme? The last two weeks I was bouncing around between #9 and #13.

I'm experiencing something similar. I was ranking #12 for a keyword, then overnight I shot down to #37.

I should add that I'm building a lot of links to the page because it's a new site. Many warriors say that this is normal and that rankings will return higher than before.

Let's hope so.

The Google dance can be this extreme and very much more so as well. I have seen sites go from top of first page to some where in the 100's and then back again in a few days to a month!!

The Google Dance is a funny 'ole thing.

I've experienced massive bounces from #338 to #16 to #48 to #12 LOL

It's just part of the process. The only way to level it out is time, consistent link building and patience.

#1 to #17? That's not too bad, actually. (I've seen much worse.) I wouldn't worry too much just yet. You'll probably bounce back pretty quickly.

The Google dance is annoying though.

I've never severely been hit by the google dance before but judging from the comments above, google can significantly change the ranking of pages when they make their updates.
