I see so many posts here where people are struggling in the Search Engine game. The problem is everyone over-complicates the whole process. Here are some tips to get you on the right track.

1. Make sure your On-Site SEO is optimized for the main keyword you are promoting. This is very important.

2. Add Fresh, Unique, QUALITY, content to your site daily/weekly(depends what type of site you have) Keep it as fresh as possible though, and make sure it is UNIQUE, QUALITY content.

3. Keep a steady stream of backlinks pointing towards your site. I would say if you are just starting, don't stress to much about PR, or No-follow/Do-follow, just keep a steady stream coming in. After you get some links and see how everything works, then you can start trying to get quality, higher PR links.

It is true that beginner should start with dofollow and nofollow links. Simply because they need to start with something. When they stressed too much on dofollow, they might eventually get zero in the end. Good tips there.

I have been posting 200-300 links to my various pages (one page per day) for the last week or so. I decided to take a little time off from back linking. I figure that everyone needs a break now and then.

So are you saying that this is a bad decision to take a few days off from posting links? I didn't ping any of them as I wanted them to be found naturally. Some of the links take days to materialize as they have to be approved. But they are all fairly high PR.

Its also important to diversify your backlink sources, not to get all backlinks from the same sites/sources.
