I'm still new so I have only worked with wordpress and I'm still trying to figure out which format will work for me, but since I'm still early into the biz I'm trying to play around with it and considering I have zero background in computers and blogs and such, I'm finding wp is't too complicated to use. It was the first place I ever had a site. I still have it.

I use it; I like it; I recommend it. I think Weebly is a really underrated host.

Later, when you can afford to, it's worth getting the paid upgrade, which removes from your site the "Weebly" button.

(Call me a skepchick, but it often amuses me a little that the people recommending Blogger in these threads don't have their Blogger sites in their sig-files to send traffic there, because they know perfectly well that if they do that, Blogger will notice it and remove their sites, as has happened here so many times before, when people have started a thread asking something about Blogger, and then before the first page is completed they're reporting back that they had their site deleted! ).

I could say that WordPress is better than blogs, in my viewpoint, since you can customize the appearance and can add some widgets and plug-ins to give your page a personalized image.

Used both, actually both have their own good points, although prefer WordPress...very stable, seems best for anything long term.

Bottom line: WordPress : PR9; Blogger : PR8

I promise I don't mean this even nearly as impolitely as it's going to sound, but if you interpret that as the "bottom line", then you have almost everything to learn about SEO.

First, those are the page ranks of the home pages of those sites, not the page ranks of your pages there.

Secondly, it's academic anyway, since neither wordpress.com nor blogger.com can safely be used by internet marketers for all the reasons discussed and explained in so much detail in this thread and the various other threads linked to above.

Thirdly, the significance and value of page-ranks has in any case fallen so much, recently (you can see this for yourself from how common it is for lower-PR pages to outrank higher-PR pages on Google searches, and from a lot of other things, too) that they're not really even worth talking about in the first place.

I'm not trying to "have a go at you", and am correcting this grotesquely misguided interpretation of what's the "bottom line" only because this is type of thread that many beginning marketers will read, and it would certainly be sad indeed for any of them to take any notice of your observation above; sorry.

Is there a difference between a website and a blog in terms of SEO? I thought content is the only way you get higher rankings through searches regardless of whethers its blogger, yoola or a .com domain. Sorry new here, correct me if I am wrong!

A blog is a type of website.

Opinions differ (mostly according to what sort of products/services people are selling when they offer theirs).

There's a popular opinion that "Google loves blogs" but to some extent it's missing the point: what Google really "loves" is "regularly updated sites". And blogs are websites of the type that are designed to be regularly updated. So, yes, in that sense, blogs may have an advantage just because of the uses to which people put them.

But really, there's no difference these days between a "blog" and a "non-blog-website". One can update a "non-blog-website" just as often as a "blog" and Google will "love" it. Equally, one can create a static site with blogging software and not update it at all.

Wordpress, for example, is really a "content management system" rather than "blogging software", but such are the perceptions of the IM community that (excluding people who think about stuff like "Blogger"), "a blog" is quite widely taken to mean "a Wordpress site". And the availability of plug-ins/add-ons such as the "All in one SEO" gadget does mean that many marketers are (entirely reasonably) using Wordpress for sites they want to rank well, and this also contributes to the overall impression that "blogs rank well".

Like so many other things in internet marketing, what it really signifies depends on exactly what one means by the words.

If the questions is Blogger vs. Wordpress.com then it really doesn't matter. Since both are hosted for you, and you don't own the website. In general that is a downside. But if you are just starting out, or have a hobby blog then Blogger is fine. You can always import your blogger posts to Wordpress later.

I like on Wordpress.com how they will promote posts on the homepage.

The best situation is to own your own domain name. In that case Wordpress is the best solution. Use Fantastico installer that comes with the hosting account.

Blogger has introduced easy-to-customize templates with mobile versions and also Google Web Fonts. You can include third-party tracker scripts or scripts of your choice. There is visual confirmation, spam filtering and also moderation options but then there is no editing of comments which have been posted. There are no fees. You can use the Template Designer to edit the layout, fonts, and colors of your blog without knowing the languages. Blogger never display ads on your blog. Whereas word press requires you to pay yearly for an upgrade and also cost of the domain name. You can't upload your own theme.Google text ads may occasionally be displayed. Java scripts are not allowed.

I would stick with wordpress as the community for it is so rich...there are tons of tutorials for it and its plugins...so you can get a really good network of blogs or web sites based on the platform.

Blogger sounds as if it might be beneath you as you sound a bit experienced with dealing the basics of wordpress.

Just keep tinkering and you will see the power of wordplress and the community support thats behind it.

We must Succeed !!!

You can use your own domain on blogger.

I find it quite funny that google provides anything for blogspot that you
want, and yet people still insist on wordpress for this very reason.

Peruse this forum. It should be a wordpress help forum. So many people
coming here for help with wordpress.....and yet, people still swear by it.
How do I...I can't....It won't.....

No such nonsense is needed with blogspot. You can put adsense anywhere
with just a mouse click. No need for any SEO plug in. Blogpsot is SEO'd,
google style, right out of the box.

If you have your own custom domain, you can use it just fine on blogspot.
If you make backups, as you should with wordpress anyway, then you
have everything you need if google shuts you down. But then, if you are
worried about google shutting you down, what does that say about what
you are doing? You don't think google will not de-index a wordpress blog?
Even your host could shut you down.

Wordpress is a pretty lousy CMS to begin with. Again, just look at how
many people can't do squat and come here begging for help.

There is so many more that are so much better and don't need a friggin'
plug in for this or that, or are a bear to modify the code to get it work
the way you want.

Most of the people use wordpress.com for making their free hosted blogs. Because, it has more features and you can make it attractive with comparatively doing less work. Blogger is good, but I prefer wordpress for making my free hosted blogs.

Blogger is also powerful actually. It can be used also for e-commerce you can find it in hxxp//toko-onlineblogspot.info or hxxp//kaus-it.blogspot.com Beside that, you don't have to pay monthly hosting. It is too much expensive for people coming from developing or poor country
