Because Google decided that this no. 3 has more quality content. That's the most probable answer. Second is that the quality of this site's links outweighs the number of the other sites' links. Third you also have to factor in domain age. Bottom line, like all the SEO experts are saying, it's not just about the quantity but also the quality. IMO nothing wrong with quantity, but it's best to have both. |

eddie jay, that is correct.. It's not only the quality of the content but it should be unique content.. Quality and unique content always gains quality backlinks over time..

This happens all the time. When doing Keyword Research I'm not intimidated with the number of backlinks a site has, because often times, the backlinks are all irrelevant to the specific keyword. Often times you see a wikihow or article with thousands of backlinks, but how many of those actually contain the keyword in the anchor text directed to that specific URL that is on first page? I actually get excited when I find these niches with large players without targeted content to the keyword. The only caution when I research keywords is that I look for other Imer's. This is the problem. Marketers know what to do to achieve good rankings. So I look out for them. This is my process; Find high value keywords, exact matches. Look at competition. Marketers there? No, good - Yes, can I beat them, How long have they been targeting that niche? Domain Name...................CRITICALLY IMPORTANT!!! Do I have an exact domain name - if not- I don't try, why; If there are no names in the niche; other Imer's are targeting and they would have had a head start on me. Who else buy up keyword domains? If however I come across a good Niche and the exact domain name is available, I buy all. Yes, all, .com .org .info .net Do your on-page SEO and your ranking with some quality anchor text backlinks and you're on page one. Done this in a day or two some times. Setup the website, and in time set up all websites. Dominate that keyword! |

As per Matt Cutts, the Google webmaster, the sites with more original and unique content have more authority and are ranked first |

Because those sites or article are more unique and well optimized plus they have quality backlinks and seems natural to Google.

Google likes content, content and more content. Do quality content that will beat a whole bunch of backline anyday. But you know something. If your content is super high quality, people will link to it themselves naturally.

Unique quality content that is the key, then spread the word of your unique quality content around the web. It may take time but it will get you there.

Always remember that links are not the only factor to be considered in getting high ranking in Google. On page SEO plays a big role also.

Like others have said, get some legit unique content on your page. Then if you can change it every once and a while would be helpful too.

Also, check the relevance of the incoming links to that particular page. A site may have a lot less links pointing to it then a page with more links, but it's probably because they are optimizing for that keyword with the exact anchor text. Of course, you need to check other factors, but this aspect of analysis is often overlooked by a lot of people. They shy away simply because they see a lot of links, and think that's enough the make a decision whether the term is too competitive or not. If only they knew!

Quantity of links is a factor, but not the only one, there is also quality of links which is more important, and then quality of the actual page, age, user data, etc......It's a mix of ranking factors weighted that determine your positioning.

I think Google should pay more attention to the number of links, not the class does not update the website content, website content or need to be updated.
