Please help me put adsense in WP widget

Im trying to get an text widget to show up. Iv'e put adsense code in it and It shows on individual posts. It does not show on main blog page. How can I get it to show on my blog main page and posts pages? I, like many others have had no luck with the Wordpress Forum.
Hope you can help as ive looked at the docs but I need some help to understand them. The answer must be something simple.
