Default Does Google give higher rankings to domains containing the word "news"?

I've noticed domains containing the words "news" seem to rank very well. Are these seen as authority sites by Google and given better rankings?

Most probably not, it would be way too easy to abuse this.

News websites are ranking because people go to them and read the content, link to them etc. etc. Therefore, Google algo. can identify them as websites for people.

I had big project with a song contest, created a news website for it and got very high rankings on competitive keywords over night since the website received 10k hits per day, people spending long time reading the news the website and sharing the news to their friends in social media etc. etc.
