Hi. I have found two keywords that have low competition and a good CPC and a high global and local monthly search. However when I look at the "local search trends" on the small google graph that displays on the keyword tool, It seems to slope downwards over time. Does this mean that the high monthly search results were referring to a time when the search was higher, and now the keyword is experiencing a low search volume. (indicated by the graph). If this is true, then the keyword is not worth going for as this high search volume has not remained consistent. This is something the graph has shown but the figure for global and monthly searches has not. Is this right? Or am i missing something. I would really appreciate a response. Thanks a lot. |

It's a good idea to be aware of the local search trends. Some people tend to look at the search numbers ONLY, AND not realize that it's a 12 month average. For evergreen keywords/domains that you plan to keep for years the numbers will even out. But for some niches it makes a huge difference. For example if you catch the hdtv market (model) on the wrong side of the graph's plateau you'll be wasting a whole lot of time (so I've heard). Try doing a search for "2010" or "valentines gift", it still shows search numbers that the graph shows isn't there. Because it's a 12 month average the previous months are either pulling the numbers up or down, unless it's REALLY consistent. IMO

You don't wont to optimize a site for a keyword on a downward trend. Those graphs are very important. |

The reason is because if you can get ranked on the first page of Google.com (US) for whatever keywords you are targeting, you will most likely be on the first page of Google for various countries as well (Google.ca - the homepage for Google Canada). About only half of the traffic I get to my blog comes from the US. Good luck, Joey | |

It's very important buddy. Its help you to decide which keywords you could invest . If you doing amazon affiliates or any market that always moving it's very imporant. I.E. watch apple product before and after its released lol. or the next version of world wating game like battle field 3 if you found some keyword that have low competition and make sense with beautiful trends graph (upupupupu) don't wait to invest in that. This like stock market that you could know the position of each company or product. |

I don't look at the trends part in the adwords keyword tool at all. I completely disregard it. I do sometimes use Google Trends TOOL to find out additional information about keywords and often find new keywords by checking with the tool, but in the google adwords keyword tool i completely ignore that column. |

Hi. I have gotten some really good responses from this thread. But a mixed bag of responses too. Some people are state that the trend graphs carry a lot of importance. Where as others are disregarding them completely. I would love some more opinions on this matter...... |

It is a good idea to keep knowledge of the search trends and then you can update your content accordingly. Search trends give an indication of the hot things and then you can modify your content to capture the traffic for the related term. Try to analyse which keywords have higher moving graphs and then try to include them in your site.

there are 2 different of downwards trends. Seasonal, like if you have a weed eater review website, the traffic is high on the summer but low on the winter. If that is the downward trend that google shows, you should have no problem, it's normal. And there are niches that are dying. Like iphone 3 for instance, downward trend, because iphone 4 appeared and etc. This you should avoid. People who do not look at the trend columns in adwords tool are dumb. And i have seen a couple of those buying websites on flippa recently. Smart sellers, gives them stats for the high season, and get valuation for their website based on that, and when the season ends, is by by traffic, bye bye earnings. |
