Default Little Bit Complicated SEO Question

Hey guys,

I currently have a product that I am selling directly (i.e. productname dot com). In the next few months, we will have a much more diverse product line, in which we will have to have a company brand (i.e. companyname dot com).

We will be permanently forwarding all the "productname dot com's" to the companyname dot com.

My question is would this hurt the "companyname dot com" website in terms of SEO, or would it help it? (we will be targeting some of the same keywords on the "companyname dot com" website) For instance, we rank pretty well for some key terms already on these "productname dot com's", but need to have one website we can drive traffic to.

No, if anything it will help it, as forwarding domains means you pass on all the link juice and traffic.

Rough Outline,

Thank you for your help.

Could I still target the keywords from the forwarding domain on the companyname dot com website even though it's being forwarded? (assuming this is without any penalties from Google.)

Yes you could, there is nothing black hat about domain forwarding, especially for the reasons you are doing it. Targeting the same keyword that the forwarded domain was targeting is completely fine.

It will help the cause of the second website, a mature website would link to a relatively new website and you wouldn't have to work more to get it into the rankings. It will pass on traffic to your new site and increase the number of visitors to it as well.

Thanks for the info. I actually had the same question as well but you did a good job explaining this Rough Outline.
