Google challanges the "Make Money Online" market with their own website

For all you "make money online" gurus, you now have a serious competitor, in the form of Google no less. Google has launched a new website with an online video course about how to make money online by setting up an online business and promoting it using the typical (whitehat) promotional methods. Complete with worksheets and downloads, it rivals some of the courses being sold in the "make money online" niche.

The site is called Learn with Google. There are 18 short videos that are a combination of educational and promotional information designed to promote the use of Google products and services.

They are specifically targeting the following keywords:

• Starting a business online
• Marketing a business online
• Running a business online

And they have a "Tools" page which naturally links to some of the best and most popular tools used by online marketers:

• Google Keyword Tool
• Ad Preview Tool
• AdWords Traffic Estimator
• Google Insights for Search

They go into specific promotional methods including:

Affiliate Marketing
Forum Marketing
Profile Pages
Social Networking

Since this information is directly from Google, you can be sure that it is all whitehat marketing methods.

The introductory video is common sense that any non IMer should already know.

Who doesn't already know you can sell items on Ebay, or about social sites, or even that it's possible to create a website of your own.

I don't see a threat, I see basic free info that has been on the net for years.

They won't show you how to rank first page of the SERPs for free, they'll show you how to pay for Adwords which has been around for years.

The whole site is simply an advertising campaign for their products.

Hi yukon,

Yes, just like the typical "make money online" websites.

While they do not reveal any "secret" marketing techniques, they do reveal what they consider to be acceptable organic promotional techniques, some which have been called "black hat" by misinformed members of this forum. And I do believe that one can get top organic rankings practicing those basic methods mentioned in the videos. Of course it all depends on how well you implement those techniques.

Fortunately or unfortunately Google won't be teaching people whats in Make money online products - no real competition. They have been offering tips on SEO and theres so much they leave out people still do well teaching it.

Browsing over the site, it seems Google is just teaching people how to do white hat techniques not really an in-depth training on how to get traffic via white hat methods.
