I have an emd site, optimized on page Seo, comprehensive unique content, and a fair amount of backlinks. My site is on page 1 google about 5 spots below a site that doesn't have the searched keyphrase anywhere on the page (or source). Explain this one please! Makes me think I'm wasting time... |

It's probably an authority site with lots of backlinks with the keyword in the anchor text. Anchor text is extremely important - search for 'click here' on google and you'll see what I mean.

Not really authority seems more commercial ecommerce like. Competition domain is 6 years old.

The site may be an authority site or it may not have related keywords in the page but i has the terms somewhere else like the image alt attribute or the meta description. There are a lot of factors that may contribute to this and it is imperative that we look closely in order to decipher the competition.
