Does it make any difference from buying an aged domain with PR of 0 versus buying a new domain with no PR as well?

IMO, PR isn't very important. With an aged domain you might benefit from existing backlinks.

would it make any difference buying a 3+ year old domain with 0 PR versus buying a brand new, never before registered domain with no history? Does age have any influence in SEO that is worth the extra money to buy an expired/aged domain?

Oh, of course, the old reputation of the new domain name in the optimization is good, but the new domain name over it constantly updated content is also possible

From my personal experience, older domains are often worth it. You can find extremely cheap 6+ year old domains. They tend to get indexed faster and also, generally speaking, are more 'trusted' than new ones. They may even have a few links if you're lucky, so keep an eye out for that too before buying an old one.

Agree with Andrei. I've found aged domains to be worth the price. | |

Aged domains are very important. Domain age is very important for rankings and can make it a lot easier than with a new domain.

Age in and of itself is not what counts, you could buy a 10-year-old domain with no backlinks, no Pr, that's been dropped 8 times and deindexed for spam. But the point is there are many gems lurking in the shape of aged domains, with good PR, trust and backlinks. Check out Terry Kyle's recent webinar on the subject, you will get a very good picture.

If the domain is aged but not in Google's index, is is it still worth getting over a new one? I have been wondering about this and my guess is that it's only worth getting an aged domain if it's in the Google index, has backlinks and PR - maybe some content too. Otherwise, probably no different to a new one - right?

The age of a domain is just one factor that SE take into account when they assign a PR to any domain. But if a newer domain has a higher PR than an older one then I would go for the new domain any day.

I think Google still likes aged domains over new ones. I have a site, almost a year old. It's better optimized, contains better content etc than any of my competitors' site on page 1 for my keyword and still can't beat them.

When someone is looking to purchase anything online are they more than likely going with a company that has been around for years on end (and can prove it) or the new guy on the block? Age is always important in this game, otherwise you will always be "the new guy".
