Buy an expiring/expired domain name that already has a ton of traffic and redirect it to your site. Naturally, choose a domain that relates to the purpose of your main site, and make sure the traffic is from reputable sources.

You get the benefit of SEO work previously done and instant traffic.

It really depends on my product/offer at the time. Typically, I would go for SE and targeted Forum/Blog traffic.

I use traffic as a funnel so I would start with

PPC- Find the keywords that will convert
Transfer to SEO- Use the same keywords that are converting and rank for those words

For testing offers I would use Solo Ads

It's going be pretty difficult for anyone to compete with Gene's answer above, I think ...

But - apart from his suggestion - mine would be article syndication.

PPC would be my next choice, but it has a real learning-curve.

JV's perhaps next, depending on the business model.

SEO would be at the very end of my list: it isn't particularly difficult, but it can be insecure, as so many people discovered to their great cost earlier this year. I certainly wouldn't want the long-term security and income-generation potential of my business to be entirely dependent on Google.

Joint ventures, joint ventures, joint ventures!

Ask yourself: how do the gurus promote their own products?

Do PPC gurus use PPC to launch their products?
Do SEO gurus use SEO to launch their products?
Do blogging gurus use blogging to launch their products?
Do software gurus use software to launch their products?

No! They all use JOINT VENTURES to launch because it is by far the least risk and most profitable way of building traffic.

Don't listen to me or anyone else - just look at how the most successful marketers in the world promote their products.

Is it a coincidence that they consistently use so many JVs to promote their launches?

it would be a toss up between ppc/banners or affiliates for me. seo wouldn't even be an option. Ideally I would teach affiliates how to run ppc/banner campaigns

I'd have to agree with Joseph. Just as you don't want to depend on one income stream - you also don't want to depend on one traffic source.

With that said, we depend heavily on PPC and Affiliate traffic (service biz)

Joint venture. Other people's buyer list is the best traffic you can get.

Start by purchasing others product, then give them honest review. There, you just build relationship for your joint venture.

I'm not an expert (yet) about this question but I must say I like what Gene said too , If you find like 5 domains related and redirect them all to your website (related aswell) that must be heck of big traffic boost.

It's also nice how people recommend to have various traffic sources, really makes sense..

Personally I will focus on small competition SEO for my first websites (along with the regular other traffic sources web 2.0 etc) due to it's cheap nature, but eventually I would like to pretty much take over all the traffic sources and get as much traffic as I can get to my websites/landings page/offers as possible

Best Traffic generating Method is SEO & SMO. SEO takes more time but it given Long Time Result. SMO is Fast traffic generating Method Compare to SEO. But it can’t give Long Time Result. It helps to generate traffic for Short time.

I use Squidoo as my back link's to get more traffic it help's a lot's because it gets ranked in google for just about any keyword pretty easy, I also like using youtube. There's some great tips in this thread that should help you get some more traffic, and get you ranked better you should also check out "Google's webmasters tool" it will tell you what word's your getting ranked in.

If I only had one traffic source available without limitation I'd say Joint Venture all the way! The money is in the list and the relationship and established market experts with solid lists and a solid relationship with that list make money - both for themselves and for their JV partners. Of course no one will partner up with you if you don't have something compelling to offer them in exchange.

I also agree with lafleurcreative in that it would be so unwise to tie up your entire business & income stream in one traffic source (Google slap anyone?).
