I'm trying to understand why someone would sell such a site? If you made 20 or 30 of them you could retire in a lot of cases. Thanks in advance for you comments.

There are a thousands reasons, one that instantly springs to mind is that you might want a lot of cash immediately to fund something else. A site making $500 a month, could easily fetch over $6000 on Flippa.

Satisfying with decent money and planning for retirement isn't the only thing people aim for, and specially in IM. There is tones of money to be made and in most cases people sell their sites, so they can invest that money in bigger projects or websites.

They are doing it because adsense is not something you should depend upon. Do you know how many people get banned everyday? A lot of people who never even dream of doing click fraud get banned everyday and that is the reason most people want to go for flipping.

not everyone has a site that sucks that they are unloading. For some people they are moving on to bigger and better projects. They may have an affiliate offer they are going to launch and need the money, or someone may be getting into ppc, or someone may want the money for a down payment for a car or house. You never know.

I would consider selling Adsense sites with reasonable revenue if I saw I was getting close to the magic $100 a day mark. Not that I am doing anything wrong, but would still rather stay under the Adsense radar. But I would still offload the sites from the bottom end of the performance scale though |

1.) A had a private buyer who was willing to pay a lot more than what I bought it for. 2.) I knew if I didn't touch the site, it would eventually start losing income. 3.) It was in a market that was changing due to new technology. 4.) I had another deal ready to go to put the money right into. It was still a great buy for the new owner, but it just didn't fit my holding criteria at that moment. I think there's some good lessons there for why someone might sell a site making good money.

I've bought a couple sites cheap on Flippa that are earning me more now. You just have to look for ones with business plans that are already profitable, have good traffic figures, lots of potential for growth, and the owner has at least 5+ years experience with business and websites so it's not going to be a problem for you to get support (you don't want to buy a site from a 15 year old kid either).

I know that unless I really need the money right now that I would rather hold on to $500/mo. If it is a really good site that that income level should be increasing. |

The time value of money has a lot to do with it. I had a site that had made over $1,000 in AdSense and I needed money prior to when Google would send me my payment. In my mind I thought I could do it again, so I flipped the site on flippa for just over $3,000. I think it should have got more, but it didn't have much of a track record. That was my first and only check I ever received from Google AdSense. Anyway, I got my money and used it for my needs, and proceeded to try and build another site. Never got a second site approved by Google News, and never got another site to make more than a dollar or so a day in AdSense. So that is what I got for doing my own thinking I guess. But I got my money and satisfied my needs of the moment. So, all is well. But bottom line, $6,000 now is worth way more than $500 per month. So if you can churn out $500 a month sites, then you are wise to consider flipping them and building more. If you want something to support yourself so you can just retire and not build any more sites, then keeping them is the wise thing to do. |

Here's another perspective: Let's say that $500/month earner only cost you $1,000 to build out the site, content, backlinks, etc. If you sell that site for $5,000...that's quick funding to create another 5 sites. It's the reinvestment part of it that appeals to us...it allows you to stack your income. We sell on Flippa using this exact strategy. We don't dump losers only (although some advocate this strategy) we simply sell off some of our older sites...right now, we're selling off the rest of our January sites and we'll start with February next month. We were able to scale from around 50 sites created per month to just under 150/month with this strategy. |

An example would be a popular camcorder from 3 years ago has lost its popularity to the newer ones so the number of searches a month drops, hence income.

SOME people, actually MANY people who have been there believe - and may have some grounds for doing so - that when your Adsense earnings begin to average more than $100 you and your sites are quite possibly subjected to manual inspection. I believe there is only apocryphal evidence for this, but it does make sense, since Google likes to leave as much of the work as possible to its algorithms, but at some point, when larger amounts of money come into play, you would expect that they would want a human to take a look. I am not QUITE there yet

Same with a site I guess - if a site needs little or no maintenance and I know it will keep earning month in month out I would be less likely to want to sell it than if it took huge maintenance, new content, lots of SEO etc. In the latter case I would rather sell it and let someone else deal with that!

| How so? For us, it takes about 6 months and 50 sites ($2,000 invested approximately) to get to the $500/month range. So...let's say we sold for $5,000. With those funds, we could create another 125 sites or so. At the end of ANOTHER 6 months, they would be earning approximately $1,250 per month and we could sell for $12,500. So in 12 months, we can take our $2,000 investment and turn into approximately $12,500...and that's if we only get 10X! :-) It's not 7 million...but it does work...just requires quite a bit of work to make it happen. |

Even at a buck a day that is $30/month ea. That site would sell for around $300 or so on flipp, with 50 sites that is $15,000. If you just hold out for a bit longer and they are making just a bit more money. With each extra dollar that the site is making a day, that adds on an extra $300 to the price tag. -- Jeff

He then goes on to say..."WE'RE selling..." this is...well..PLURAL. That would mean he has a team that can churn out the sites, or at least more than him. It is honestly not that hard to get sites to the $500/month mark. That is just over $15 a day; $16.43/day to be more exact. Can you do 50 sites by yourself? No, of course not. I myself work on 10 sites at a time MAX. I found that this is the sweet spot for me. So thinking that $500/month/site is impossible is pretty off base. -- Jeff

The value of Adsense sites are diminishing because google is so fickle. A site that is making a 100 bucks today may be making zero tomorrow. It just depends on what google wants or what they think. I have had Adsense sites for a long time now and I get thousands of views per day on some sites yet google rarely shows ads. I may get 10 to 20 impressions according to google.

Wow...sorry about that...quite the controversy! Lol...I think I made the mistake of mixing a hypothetical with actuals and that's why I got everyone confused. In actuality: We create $10/month sites that cost us around $40 each to make. So to get $500/month it would take 50 sites...or around a $2,000 initial investment. After about 6 months, we could sell those sites at (assuming here 10x) 5K. We DO reinvest that money into creating more sites...which comes out to another 125 sites. Another 6 months and we have $12,500. That's 12 months from an initial $2,000 investment. I was hypothetically speaking about 1 site that makes $500/month that only cost 1K to make. With our current team and strategy, there's NO WAY we could be pumping 150 $500/month sites each month, unfortunately! I think it IS possible, but would require unbelievably more people and more work than we're currently doing Right now, we're creating around 150 sites per month that, ultimately, earn a little more than $10/month on average. Some much more...some much less...but an average of just over $10. |

There are legitimate reasons for unloading a site (some people just don't want to manage / maintain a site, it could be decreasing income lately, etc.). Also, profits are never guaranteed. If I'm making $500 a month right now, who knows where I'll be in 6 months. A flat-price sell is guaranteed money I can count on.

I recently read about someone who's partner got made redundant and they sold a website, I believe it was for about $6,000. Most people who build sites are just ordinary folk so things that happen to everyone happen to them too. It is some peoples choice, although "funding other projects" is one of the most used excuses in flippa I notice. Best wishes, Ruth |

selling a site that makes you 500dols permonth is a brainer, anything could happen in the next month because google changes many things. so if one sells a site ten times he is earining monthly he has made the money he could possibly make ten months from the particular time. i personally i have flipped blogs making 20-50dols months and sold easily for 399dols and more. so site flipping is the best and fastest internet money maker for newbie. thanks
