Do you find the higher you climb in google the higher your CTR? Or if your in 8th position is the CTR the same as if in position 1. The only diff being you get more impressions and clicks in position 1? But similiar CTR. |

If your ad placement and ads aren't optimized correctly it doesn't matter if you're ranked #1 or #8, you'll be getting a really poor CTR. Being ranked higher doesn't make people want to click on your ads. |

Well, I had an odd experience with one site - when I was at number four, below the shopping results I had a VERY high CTR. Once I got to number one with that site the CTR dropped significantly (though of course my earnings were still higher overall). My crazy theory is that the kind of people clicking a result next to the shopping results (maybe they mistook my site for one of the shopping results) are the greatest BUYERS, or CLICKERS at least. But I put that down to proximity to the shopping results, not any position in the SERPS per se - I am not sure how that would affect CTR. I suppose it MIGHT - perhaps the kind of people in your niche who comb the SERPS more carefully to find what they are a looking for are also the same kind of person who will more likely click on an ad... *shrug* Who knows - I would still rather have the no. 1 spot |
