Lol millions... I probably just wouldn't compete actually. Saying that, quality backlinks are way more effective than masses of rubbish back links so you may be able to beat him if you find some really good quality PR backlinks that are related!

If you're talking about millions of backlinks to the domain, it shouldn't be difficult to beat if its on-page seo is poor. If you're talking about millions of backlinks to the actual page that is ranking, forget about ranking for that keyword.

Backlinks are just one aspect of good SEO. It depends on the site, but take a good look at their SEO profile. If they have good backlinks, AND keyword targeting, AND on-page SEO combined with decent content... Then you'll have a fun time trying to beat them. If it's a big site, they probably have full time SEO guys keeping them on top. However, if it looks like there is a gap... Then go for it. Make sure your SEO is perfect, and try to develop better (more "useful") content than them. The rest will come. Good luck |

If you're trying to rank for a single keyword it'll be much tougher, find a good related keyword phrase that gets a good number of searches. First get a top level (.com, .net) domain name that contains your keyword phrase. ie: if you're trying to rank for "best seo software" you would look for bestseosoftware.com (or .net) if it's not available you could try "thebestseosoftware" you could also try to see if bestseosoftwarez.com or bestseosoftwarex.com are available. You could also try inserting dashes between the words like best-seo-software. This is just a small list to get you thinking, lol now that I think of it I would not go for bestseosoftwarez.com don't want your site being seen as related to "warez" Next your site must contain good, relative content. (Don't even think about using duplicate content) You must use good onpage seo ie: Title begins with or at least contains your keyword. Meta description begins with or at least contains your keyword, your content contains 2-5% keyword density, your keyword in <h1>,<h2> and bolded, italicized and underlined at least once. Link to another page on your site using your keyword as the anchor text You linkout to an authority site, like Wikipedia, with your keyword as the anchor text. Use at least one image in your content with your in the name ie: bestseosoftware.jpg and in the image description. Now that you have a nice site, with good content, and you completed you onpage seo, it's time to start your offpage seo. This is not just backlinks and covers a lot more than I can get into here. There is a lot you need to learn (unless you can afford an seo expert) but don't give up you can do it if you really want to. If you really want to do it, continue reading the WarriorForum, we have a lot of real experts here (no I am not one of them) and you WILL learn a ton of information from them. I would also suggest that you join the "War Room", it's the best investment you'll ever make and you can get a lot of free information and tools, many of which you would have to purchase as a WSO if you weren't a member. Another idea which can help you speed up the process is to use Wordpress. It's a lot quicker than setting up an html site and you'll find a ton of free plugins that will help you get your site ranked. You can do it, you might not get to #1 of Google but being #2 or #3 is a big accomplishment. Best of luck!

The thing is, most of the sites which have millions of backlinks have a good portion of those links coming from really spammy locations so I am pretty sure many of those links are discounted. I just remembered that I was once number 1 for a very competitive SEO related term by getting 12000 links but there was a .com site on position 5 which had 1.2 backlinks ![]() The lesson? Do not worry about link numbers, just get as many links as you can. The idea is.. if there is a lot of competition for a certain keyword phrase, a lot of money can be made so do not listen to others and try to go after lesser competitive keywords.. |

Millions of backlinks would take YEARS AND YEARS of backlinking to outrank, your time might be better spent elsewhere.
