Buying other website to direct traffic to yours?

Im new at this game and i am building a website relating to business. I have seen websites for sale on flippa getting some pretty good traffic ( a few thousand a month) for a few hundred bucks. Even if these website did not make money, would it be smart to purchase them and advertise my main site all over them or even better write articles and put my main websites link there?

To purchase someone elses website which is ranking #1 for a particular keyword in google and getting thousand of views per month for $300 bucks lets say make sense IMO.

Any feedback on experienced people would be appreciated.

If the sites are in the same niche, then yeah buying sites with lots of traffic and using them to push traffic to your other sites is a good idea if you can afford it.

I would rather build some SEO traffic myself, but that's just ma shtyle
