Confusing Market Samurai competition result

It looks too competitive at a glance, but then up there at the top there's that guy. He has an exact match domain (the one I wanted, but oh well) and I think I could easily beat out his back link profile. Also his website is kind of useless as I'm sure you could guess from having only 4 indexed pages.

Has anyone seen a result like this before and had any success pursuing it? I'm new to making niche sites and I don't want to pour a month's worth of work into a dead-end site. I don't know if there's some metric that Market Samurai is missing that pushed this guy's site to the top.

You should probably speak to the people who sell the product - they should have a definitive answer for you.

Well I know a lot of people here use Market Samurai and was just looking for advice from someone who has more experience with it than I do.
