Hi all, I would like to move a series of articles from one of my sites over to another. The content is ranking really well for it's target keyphrases etc. but I really want to put it on a separate site of mine which I am developing into an authority site and which is more appropriate for the content in question. I know I can just cut and paste but I am afraid of losing the good search engine position and not gaining it in the new site if I do that? What is the best thing to do to get it onto the second site? Thanks in advance. Terry |

use a 301 redirect on the old site, this will assure that you keep the pagerank of the articles on the old site, all the links coming into the old site urls will sort of now count for the new site urls

if you're ranking well, then why move? why not do a new and updated version of each article with fresh titles, descriptions, and even expand on the topic a little more for your new site? this way you retain ranks on the old articles, then eventually rank on the new ones too. or the htaccess 301 is always a good way to move sites/pages too! you can google "301 redirect htaccess" and come up with a ton of results. |

btw - are you planning on ditching your old site entirely? if so, and you're on wordpress, then you can do an export/import of your posts. THEN do the htaccess 301 redirect for the entire site. i'm certain that should do the trick. you can also go into google webmaster tools and tell it that OLD SITE is moving to NEW SITE. not sure how that may or may not affect rankings, but i recently did that on 2 sites and it's been OK so far. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not ditching the first site-I simply want to move this particular series of posts to another more appropriate site that I am developing.. Terry |

I am wondering is this kind of works has the same working principles like changing url address for certain pages. I had a whole navigation containing over hundred of stories and we were forced changed the url a time, the contents were indexed again soon and the former ranks remained the same. I don't know if it is the same to your content movings?
