Default H1 Tag question

I saw an article where it was said that using an H1 tag in your blog post with your main keywords and an H2 tag with your secondary keywords would help in SERPS and that there could be more than 1 H1 tag on the main page. . I thought that the H1 tag was used to showcase the main keyword and no more. Could using more that one H1 tag help get better SERPs ?

I want to know what the real pros think about that

I haven't noticed much difference, there is such a thing as an "over optimized" site. I assume that means they try too hard to get the keywords noticed, by following old advice on on-page optimization to the letter. Just make a page that looks good, and reads well, so long as the title is right, (perhaps h1 in your theme) and you mention the keyword phrase in the first paragraph, and the last, then you should be OK.

Personally, I wouldn't use more than one H1 tag. There's a reason why it's the H1 tag. It means that it's the most important keyword on your site.

Well I have been putting 2-3 H1 tags and 4-5 H2 tags and they work for on-page optimisation.

Only one H1 tag should be used for the most important heading or keyword,You can use other heading tags more then once(H2,H3,H4 and so on).If anyone is saying using more then H1 tags give better rankling in SERPs,Its completely false.

I don't beleive in using more than 1 H1 tag in an article except if I'm using it to get equal attention to different keywords.

H1 tag is one of the SEO supported tag. It helps in SERP. But you can't give two h1 tag on a single page.

Hi,

I definitely would not use more than one h1 tag. Since Panda, Google has been much tighter on over-optimized websites. Just use H1, h2, etc, as you need them. Otherwise it looks like keyword stuffing.

Best wishes,

Ruth

Thanks for your advice. Looks like one h1 and 2-3 h2, h3 would be best. I'll give this a shot
