Let me answer your questions and expand upon a few ideas...
  • Your website is not nofollow or dofollow, rather "nofollow" is a link element. Any specific link on your site can be dofollow or nofollow.
  • As a basic rule of thumb, keep all of your internal links dofollow and only bother using nofollow when linking out to a site you're not sure you trust or want to vouch for.
  • Linking out to other websites will not harm your site's rankings unless you link to "bad neighborhoods" (just don't link to really awful sites which is easy to avoid)
  • You will dilute the spread of the pagerank from a page on your site based on the number of links regardless of if they are dofollow or nofollow. The difference is that dofollow links will actually pass the PR. This does NOT take PR from your page, it simply affects how it is passed.

You can make any normal link nofollow by adding the element like this:

<a href="http://yourwebsite.com" rel=nofollow>anchor text</a>

Finally, this free tool has a very useful feature for identifying nofollow links: http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/
