Hi all, I'm pretty new to SEO and the Warrior forums but i have been reading as much as i can. I wanted to ask a question but this is the back story first. I had a website developed by someone else Green and Gold Electrics - Electrician Bayside - Domesitc & Commercial we can get into the back end but cant change much with it only content and stuff, its wordpress. The person who did the site has gone MIA and we cant contact them. They havent been returning out calls. So worried about our site disappearing one day we set up our own site Electrician Local thats the same. We have been doing what SEO we can to both sites. Content/backlinks etc. Our knowledge is limited but we are learning! So i am confused as to why the 1st site (Green and Gold electrics) ranks on the 1st page yet the 2nd one (electrician local) dosnt rank anywhere. For example when i search Electricians Hampton in google this comes up on the 1st page Electricians Hampton Victoria, Electrical contractors Hampton, Electrician Hampton yet this page Electricians Hampton Victoria, Electrical contractors Hampton, Electrician Hampton | electricianlocal.com.au which is the same dosnt rank at all. I've love to know why? Whats the difference and where i am going wrong? I am using Seopressor and All in one SEO pack for the Electrician local site and the Green and Gold Electrics site is using Genesis SEO I hope all that is understandable? Thanks heaps, Kelly |

The reason electricianlocal.com.au doesn't rank is that you've essentially copied the content verbatim off the original site. Google will see this site has having duplicate content and given the original site already ranks highly, there is no reason for Google to rank another website with the same content on it. |

With your first site, is it hosted on their servers or yours? I have seen wordpress sites hosted on your own (paid) host, that only allow you to change your content and nothing else. If you can contact the host then you should be able to find out from them how to change more than just the content, you shouldn't need to go through the original designer. | |

Thanks all! That helps me so much. I wrote the original content so it isnt the designers. I might change the key words on the other then and see what happens. Quote:

Google's duplicate content filter runs at about 90ish % (correct me if I'm wrong), so there's not a great deal to change. Do some paraphrasing, mix up the titles, h1's and h2's, change the meta up, and don't go overboard with keyword densities. I often run Backup Buddy which clones Wordpress sites and by doing the above I've never had pages from either sites excluded from the index.

Yeah like everyone else has said, Googles duplicate filter is the reason mate.
