Google Webmaster Tool: Sudden Drop in Backlinks

Dear Warriors,

There's something that I couldn't figure out therefore I'm sharing and see if anyone here could help me.

I noticed that there's a sudden drop of backlinks in my webmaster tools for all my sites. 1st site was from 800k+ down to 40k+ and 2nd site was 40k+ down to 800. I was wondering why does this happen?

It happens to me like for the 3rd time. For some reason, it will went up back to 800k and 40k and then suddenly it drops again and it goes up again and drop again in weeks time.

Anyone else encounter this matter? Hopefully someone can understand and explain/help me here =D

Are you doing any type of blog commenting? Often times when you comment on blogs, your link will appear sitewide because they have a recent comments section on their sidebars. This of course will drop after other people comment which then your sitewide links would go away.

That's just a guess though, I have no idea how you're building links.
