I was browsing around Flippa, I already know that guys make it a business to build & flip sites one after the other. That's when I got to thinking, these guys must do a lot of keyword research on a regular basis, so they must be digging up some easy long-tail keywords to get them ranking on page #1 in the SERPs with little real competition. Sure enough... In less than 5 min. I found an easy to rank longtail keyword, with only the guy on Flippa really targeting the keyword. The keyword gets 4,000 search per month according to GKT (Google Keyword Tool). The guy that is selling the site on Flippa has 5 pages total for the entire site. I have no doubts I can rank my new site #1 in the SERPs for this keyword. His site is 4 months old. You still have to do the keyword research, I'm just saying these guys that flip sites for a living will do all the hard keyword work for you, & provide free leads for easy to rank long-tail keywords that get decent traffic. I'm so all over this keyword, lol. |

Very true. It also works as a good research tool to spot any trends as well. Great place to get niche ideas on (especially when you find a handful of sites that are earning a steady income in a specific niche).

True, we found two great keywords in the end of 2009. One was adsense related (74,000 exact searches per month for that keyword, pretty easy niche at that time, not so much now) and another was a rather famous CB product (27,000 exact searches a month, not anywhere near an easy keyword). First one was doing $100ish a day and was sold for $30,000~. IIRC, it was a 4 month old site. The second was doing $300ish a day in sales. It was sold for $55,000. We created our own sites and within a few months, were making quite a bit with those sites. Flippa and other marketplace sites can be great places to do a little bit of niche digging. |

I just now grabbed all his backlinks with SeoSpyglass, most of the links are from 3 external domains (blog comments), the highest is a PR4. Should be easy to own this keyword in the SERPs. I've been wanting to test a new WP theme I built for Adsense, looks like I'll order some text content this weekend & build some links next week.

Yes but using wordtracker is a good option, Google keyword search external tool, some times do not give us a real searching volume, but well i guess that they succeed in some way of doing that.

Most of these guys on Flippa won't hold a site for a long time. They will target easy to rank keywords 1st page of Google SERPs, when I say easy to rank, I mean they are easy to rank in 3 months or less & have traffic (GKT). The way I see it, If the domain is only 4 months old, & the Flippa seller is ranking #1 for his keyword, then the competition for that keyword isn't very strong in the SERPs (as a general guidline). You still have to double check the competition, & the keyword I'm working on now is very weak in the SERPs as far as competition. Again, the tip here is pre qualified keyword leads, not full blown keyword research from the start.

Yeah I love Flippa. If a site is rockin it with Adsense you know that niche is "clicky" and you're good to go.

Guys this is a fascinating thread. I've also heard of using Flippa to find KW's for PPC too. Anyone else experimented with this idea? JP |

The keyword gets 4,000 search per month according to GKT (Google Keyword Tool). I have found that tool to exaggerate wildly . |

There are a bunch of MFA sites that are showing up on Flippa that you could get a whole bunch of keyword ideas from. But make sure you don't create MFAs yourself or they'll get trashed before you see any revenue.

I've had this happen to two of the sites I sold on Flippa. After (and even before) the sale ends, dozens of copycat sites pop up. Most don't last, but they do some harm. When I say copy cat, I don't mean competitors. I mean people who copy exactly the same design, ad positions, exact or slightly re-written content. They also try to replicate the backlinks they can find. It's one thing to use flippa for inspiration. What most of the "watchers" (as I call them) are doing is driving buyers away from flippa. It's like they have exactly ZERO imagination. So the buyers loose in the short term, and eventually sellers will loose too as they will be less buyers looking to make an investment. If you're gonna use Flippa for research. Put more thought into it and try to come up with a unique idea, or if you're going to do the same niche. Try to do it BETTER. |

![]() **************************** I totally agree with you (Try to do it BETTER). The only thing I was looking for was keywords at the time I created this thread 3 months ago. I wasn't in any way suggesting that anyone copy someone elses site, I'm not like that & would be pissed If someone scraped my sites content. Keep it clean folks, keyword research only.

It also goes to reason that if you're going to do it BETTER you will likely expend the approximately the same amount of time and money that the seller spent to get the site earning level it was sold at. So when I see a site like that on Flippa, a site that I want, instead of copying it. I buy it, THEN make it better. I've done that a few times now and I often make back the purchase price within 3-6 months by increasing traffic and revenue. |

I can build a better site for a lot less, most times. When I started this thread the keyword I was talking about in OP, the Flippa guy wanted $5,000+ for his 5 page site (it sold btw). I can build that same site for less than $600 (rough estimate), which would include $500 in backlinks. The only way I would ever buy an existing site is:
Granted the site developer should be compensated for his time/work, still a lot of sites are over hyped on Flippa. When someone BS about their earnings I bail & don't continue reading. One guys past earnings has nothing to do with the future earnings of the site. All I need to know about is the traffic source & existing content, the rest is all fluff IMO.
