If you want to lower your bounce rate even further this WSO is a great WSO that covers that in-depth. warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-forum/437760-1000-sold-bounce-rate-eliminator-turn-your-zero-income-wp-blog-into-money-making-machine-today.html

Sorry I had to post the link like that, but I don't have 15 posts so that is why I have to post the links that way.

58% bounce rate seems just fine, but try to engage site visitors some more to lower it.

My new sites also have a similar bounce rate. Have something to offer your visitors so the bounce rate is reduced

That's a good rate. I'd start focusing on conversions now if I were you.

Allow me to qualify my comments by disclosing that I have been certifiied as a Google Analytics Qualitifed Individual.

Bounce rate is a very important metric, but the context in which you view it is critical. You would do well to read every post on bounce rate that Avinash Kaushik has posted Occam's Razor by Avinash Kaushik - Web Analytics Blog.

In short, bounce rate must be contextualized in order to be interpreted in any meaningful way; you need to segment your traffic, and also think from the page-level, and also be explicitly clear about how page views and bounce rate data are collected and reported by GA.

As a quick couple of examples to get your thinking kick-started on this, consider a blog site where visitors read the new post then leave - a one page visit is a bounce, so is a high bounce rate on a blog site "bad" or "good"? (think about it). Also, what if your contact us page has a high bounce rate, is that "bad" or "good". Or, what if you have low bounce rate and lots of time on site but the reality is that your UI is frustrating visitors as they go page to page desperately not-finding what they're looking for?

I would advise you to not look at site-wide bounce rate to make determinations, and also don't go with any "blanket" X% bounce rate is good or bad.

Hope that helps.
David

PS: I agree with sethczerepak, you should set up goals and/or funnels for micro and macro conversions and use that to make data-driven decisions about user behavior.

I also highly recommend, in addition to Avinash's blog, Google Analytics TV with Nick and Avinash and the GA blog: Google Analytics Blog

I have a bounce rate which is high at 78% and this worried me for a while, as the pages load fast and I've had people email me thanking for the quality of the content (its a garden advice site), but Davids comments have eased my worries, and when I've looked at the statcounter paths it worried me less so (Although I'd like to lower it), they spend over 2 mins on average per page visit -s o the content is engaging them. The reason I think the bounce rate is high is that a lot of searches are so specific e.g. If they are searching on "How to grow tomatoes" then that is the advice they want and just that, and so they are unlikely to click on my guide on "How to grow yams" (They may hate the taste etc), although when they do click on another page they then tend to look at 10-12 more different pages.
So whilst I'd like it lower, what David said partly eases my worries.

it depends on what type of sites you're having, if it's just a normal daily news site then it's doing great. If it's a niche site then not very good.

Your bounce rate is okay. If it is over 70%, you need to redesign.Well, a low bounce rate isn't always good, since it may mean a lack of traffic.

The bounce rate factor is modified by time spent on site.

One of my clients has a 73% bounce rate but people spend an average of 8+ minutes on his site so to Google his bounce rate is very good. He provides a lot on information, videos and a blog.

Bounce rate measures engagement but so does time spent on site. One niche site I have is mainly videos so the 3 minute average time spent is kind of good.

I heard that rate of good and bad bounce rate vary from niche to niche well I don't see any sense in that but can say anything about this statement.
Personally I think you can lower bounce rate below than 35% almost every new site has bounce rate starting from this figure but I guess it should be below 50% and just make sure that the places where you are building links and the titles of the pages are relevant to what the content of your web site offers

bounce rate is not so much bad...but in my opinion the main factor affect the website reputation is that...when the visitor comes to your website...he did get it what he want or not..your website must contain the useful information for which the visitor visits your website.

That is really high rate of bounce rate. Your bounce rate should be within 30% . To Decreases the bounce rate first check your content. If the content is user friendly or not, Bounce rate is high that means user is not getting what he has expected from your site before coming to your site. So first check the content and make your content strong and relevant so can a visitor could not go to other site once he has landed to your site.

The definition of bounce rate is the percentage of people who arrive on your site and leave without visiting a second page. More importantly, Bounce Rate was designed to tell you if you have the right audience coming to your pages and if you are meeting their expectations.

The bounce rate on my blog is about 88%. I always look for ways to decrease it, trying to increase site speed, it is also very important to make sure that the database (for WordPress Websites and others) is hosted on fast servers.

I've noticed that with very long tail keywords, and very specific searches, my bounce rate tends to be very higher, regardless of the amount of content, amount spent on that page, etc. So I tend to not worry about it too much. Focus on providing some sort of value to your visitors, building good links and it will all work out in the end.

I have a site that is approx. 3.5 yrs old with a bounce rate between 2.5 and 4.0 depending on how often I add new content. I usually only promote through Twitter, but am hooked up with many people in that niche.

It is my highest Adsense earner, plus I have several paid links. My main goal is to provide as much information as possible to those who visit the site.

Although I have made a little by selling products and have been told I should do more of that, the site is mainly for information. That the site makes more money than any of my other sites is a surprise to me, but apparently content really is king in this case.

Ok, this thread is quite old, but...

Hmmm... I wonder why people say that 58% bounce rate is good... It's not. It's quite bad - maybe. It can be several reasons to it; bad content, bad user experience, type of site and untargeted traffic.
When it comes to the type of site, it can be a site where you look for something specific and then leave, e.g. a recipe site. Have a look at the average time spent on the site too, that's important.

One of my client's bounce rate is about 28% with an avg time on site just below 6 mins and we are continously working to lower the BR since this can be improved quite a lot. For some pages, especially during certain campaigns, it has peaked up to about 33-34%, which is quite bad IMO.

In my opinion 58% bounce rate is not bad, it's good. If you want to your site bounce rate good then your site content have unique content and informative information. Also site layout are look very attractive.Make sure the keywords you are using in your meta data have very low bounce rate.
