OK, I just tripped into an article about Brain Reading Devices and how they may become the future computer interface: News Stories: Brain-Reading Devices Could Kill The Keyboard | FoxNews.com "Brain Reading" Device Can Predict What People See So, I bought a few domains: BrainReaders.com BrainReader.org BrainReading.org It's a long shot and if these DO become popular it won't happen for years. Has anybody here ever made out buying domains here based on tech that hasn't come out yet? I'm just wondering if I might be onto something or if I'm just bat $#*! crazy |

I'm surprised you managed to get BrainReaders.com. I've got a ton of speculative domains in my domain account - some of them are now ready to be monetized but I just don't have the time. Considering the price of domains it's a small investment.. I just wish I'd of got started about 5 years ago! |

![]() Personally, my own brain is not visionary or forward thinking enough to capitalize on what may be. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the present, which changes every second. Actually, I find myself thinking too much in the past and saying, "Oooooh, I wish I had thought of THAT one!" But even if I had, most likely I would not have been able to capitalize on it like those who did it. To the future! Ron

It would take 10 minutes to think up 10 great domain names. And many of them were still available

I've purchased a few speculative domain names over the years. It's only a minimal investment but the rewards can be great.

Business.com comes to mind. Sold for around $8 mil, I think. This would be probably the easiest way to make a handsome killing - just being forward thinking enough to snag some domain names you just KNOW are going to kill it in the future. Now THAT'S an investment. Where's the friggin' time machine when you need one? Ron

I bought some domains based on a future NASA project. Sadly, the project came and went without an offer from NASA for the domains. lol.

They will spend 600 bucks for a toilet seat but can't see the value in a cool(?) domain name or two? And NASA has gone kaput, yes? There is a correlation, you know. Had they gotten any of the domain names you held, the project would have a happier ending, NASA would have been better funded and good people would still have a job. Bureaucracy. Ron

i think you need to buy a lot to be profitable. you're going to get a lot of duds but if you do ever land on something, hopefully it's enough to overcome the losses.

Sure, this also comes in handy for large product launches in the IM niche, especially if you have some contacts ; ) Otherwise you could just get on some mailing lists and as soon as you hear an announcement you could grab all the WEB 2.0 properties with those domains and start promoting the crap out of them with backlinks. You can make a pretty nice penny on this method. Just takes a little more patience. A few $1,000 a week is easily doable. I once had a $XX,XXX 2 week span on a product launch that I had about 15 Web 2.0 properties highly ranked for. ***I say web 2.0 and NOT .com, .net, etc because by this time the product owner and super affiliates who have the know will have already gotten them. |
